helping girlfriend with Bulimia
Posted: 07-20-08 16:58pm

I need help. My girlfriend has bulimia and I've known for the past 5 months. She's had it for the last 5 years. During the last 5 months I've tried to help, being around when she's eating, suggesting treatment, never leaving her alone. She's finally told me this is her life and she can't get over it as much as she may want to...in her words "It's just too much a part of me and I can't get over it". She told me the other day that If I cant deal with her having bulimia we can't be together. I want there to be some way for us to be together and her to get better but I don't know how. She said if she went to the hospital her dreams would get delayed and she is VERY against seeking help from anyone. I'm at a loss as to what to do...I love her yet it kills me to see her go through this. PLEASE HELP...

To get over bulimia you need to want to. It seems your gf is so used to her ED that she cant see a way of getting out of the cycle. You need to tell her that the only way things will be normal if she only seeks help. If you trully love her and she keeps on refusing help. The only thing you could do is either get help for her such as telling her parents or leave. This should shock her into knowing she is only harmign herself.

xx good luck
