Hemmorhoids during pregnancy
Posted: 03-14-08 13:22pm

Hi i'm back using ehealth as i'm nearly 9 months pregnant with my second baby only a year after my first daughter Raven was born..I have two swollen piles coming out of my bottom and they are very painfull and make me bleed sometimes when going to the toilet. My problem is this....not only am i absolutly terrified to give birth this time around (family say thats because i now know what to expect),as i had a terrible Episiotomy which burst open and had to be re-stitched and then got infected,i was in agony for weeks...but I'm also scared to death of while I'm pushing out baby number two in about 2weeks time I'm obviously going to make the piles worse with all the strain of pushing..Bassically i'm scared to have a bunch of grapes hanging out of my backside. The doctors and midwifes don't seem bothered much to try and help me and ive tried all the creams and pessaries under the sun...salt baths...ice packs..ect. I'm so unhappy i cry all the time and i really am down and depressed.I dont know what to do.Please any advice (without people being sarcastic) would be greatly apreciated.Thankyou,JadeXX

Sorry, I tried to reply the other day and it wouldn't respond.

I had hemorroids with my daughter and it was awful. I feel for you. I'm sorry your doctor and nurse aren't taking your complaints seriously. This is a very painful condition.

I don't have any help to offer, other than a donut. There are inflatable donut pillows you can sit on that can lessen the pressure on your anus and provide some relief. Also fiber and not straining when you go to the bathroom.

Do get one of those donut pillows like she suggested. They are really weird but they help with the pain. Keep a lot of fiber in your diet. Constipation is a normal condition in pregnancy, but you can drink prune juice and as much as you want to help it along.

Don't worry about what the doc's see or think: they've seen everything. I know it's embarrassing no matter what to you (I can never get over just having my legs bared when I have a baby, let a lone being stripped naked and having my clothes cut off me once either), but they really don't care. They see a patient who needs help and they wouldn't have become doctors or stayed doctors if they cared about stuff like that.

If you get another tear or episiotomy, get one of those tubs of TUX and use them every time you use the bathroom. They will help the site to heal faster, minimize the possibility of tearing, and keep you infection free.
