Hernia repair with Ventralex ? Posted: 04-03-08 21:22pm
Hello,
I have been diagnosed with an umbilical
hernia. I am scheduled for surgery on
April 11. The surgeon who is doing the
procedure will be using a mesh product
from Bard called Ventralex to repair the
hernia. I have searched these forums but
haven't found any information about this
product. Has anyone had a good or bad
experience with this product?
After reading some of the posts from
butterfly6169 I am very concerned about
using any "mesh" product to repair my
hernia.
Thanks!

Hi and Welcome
I would ask your doctor for as much
information as you can about this type of
mesh. I am not familiar with this mesh.
How many times has he used it?
Do any of his patients have complications
from this mesh? (He may not be honest
about this).
Is there another option in repairing your
hernia?
I wish I knew about these dangers before
going in.
I am not trying to scare anyone about
this, I am trying to inform people of the
mess that occurs in many who end up with
meshes.
Have you checked out the manufacturers
site on this mesh?
I checked and part of this mesh is
polypropylene mesh, which causes problems
for many people. This stuff hardens, folds
up and/or crumbles over time.
You might not end up with problems like
many of us have. It's difficult to say how
your outcome will be. I hope it all goes
well for you.
Again I am trying to inform people of the
complication that have arisen from mesh
implants.
If I can help I will do my best to get
you the answers, after all it's your
body.
Feel free to pm me if you'd like.
Please keep us posted.

Hernia Repair with Ventralex? Posted: 04-05-08 17:57pm
butterfly6169,
Thanks for your response! I will attempt
to ask before my surgery if there are any
options for repairing the hernia without
the mesh.
I did some research about this product and
looked at the manufacture website. I
found a study of 51 people who had hernias
repaired with Ventralex and the results
were good. This study was done
independently and not paid for by the
manufacture. Ventralex seems to be a
second or third generation product so I'm
hoping that some of the earlier issues are
resolved.
I am still very nervous about the
procedure but the surgeon has a great deal
of exerience with hernias and good results
using this product. I've never had a
sergical procedure before where I'm not
awake.
Thanks again for sharing your experiences.

You are very welcome, if I can help you in
any way please let me know.
If you are very anxious about the
operation you can ask your doctor if he
can prescribe something for the anxiety so
you take before going in.
Good luck and keep us posted. I hope it
all works out for you.
