Sometime back I kept knocking my stomach,
particularly about my navel, when I walked
through partly closed door. At the same
time I would bounce my new baby niece on
my tummy. A good while after that I
noticed a dull pain that emanated from my
navel. I had it checked out. No growth or
bulges & nothing showed up on the
ultrasound. We thought maybe I tore a
muscle in my abdomen. I learned to live
with it, even doing pilates & losing
weight. The area was tender & would only
bother me during my period or after
intense exercise.
However recently I hit my navel in that
same door and noticed soon after a dark
lump just below my navel. The pain is the
same but a bit more intense. I was told in
a rushed examination that I maybe a
hernia. Could that be it? Everything I
read on hernia doesn't sound close to what
I'm experiencing.
What do you think?

It is impossible to diagnose your problem
without a clinical examination (inspection
and palpation). A hernia located on the
middle frontal abdominal line is called a
ventral hernia. Usually, it is not
painful except if it is complicated with
incarceration which can be a life
threatening condition. It looks like a
lump with no color and is soft on
palpation. It can be pulled back in the
abdomen when pressed. Sometimes it can
pulll back spontaneously and show again
later.
A painful dark lump could indicate blood
collection (hematoma) under the skin. You
may want to visit your GP in order to
check this new possibility.
