Herniated L4 Disc
Posted: 07-15-08 22:40pm

I have a herniated L4 disc, it is becoming much worse. I had surgery and my L5 last September and I also had surgery on my C6-7 last December. The surgeon said at that point that my L4 wasn't that bad yet and sent me to have the epidural. it didn't help me at all, now I am having pain in the front of my leg above my ankle and it feels like someone is taking an electrical cord and shocking me.

I am also having problems with my feet, it is getting more and more difficult to stand on my feet, by the end of the day, my ankles are so swollen, I feel as if i will be in a wheel chairs soon.

Please advise me if the problems with my feet have anything to do with my L4, also I am having a terrible time with cramps in my feet and in my legs, please advise me on what i should do next.

Thank you,
BlueLavanderFlower

Hello BlueLavanderFlower,

Sorry to read about your continuing pain, and I'm most concerned about the issues with your legs and feet.

I am not a doctor but from my experience and from reading about similar experiences of others it appears you have a severe pinched nerve(s). Those signs are not to be ignored, or as my spinal surgeon told me, "you will end up in a wheelchair".

PLEASE, without delay, search for the very best spinal surgeon who you can find in your area. For whatever reason, I don't get a good feeling about the surgeon who performed your past surgeries. I would suggest that you obtain the advice from at least two of the top spinal surgeons on your list. In my opinion it is always wise to get at least one "2nd opinion".

If there is any way I can try and help you find a highly regarded spinal surgeon, do let me know.

Take care. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hi RichT,

Thank you so much for the information. My problem is I have an HMO and I have to go within the practice.

I am hoping that maybe I can find a new surgeon in the practice.

Thank you again

Hello BlueLavanderFlower,

Is there any way you can go outside of the "practice" and still have doctors who are with the HMO insurance that you have? Certainly hope so.
