hey there. I just posted something on your other post and then I saw this one. My questions are answered now.

im sorry you had to find out like you did. its so hard to deal with that initial shock. And its even harder when you are worrying about your baby. I too have herpes and I am 32 1/2 weeks so I know how scary this can be.

Valtrex is one of the best medicines for herpes and it should take away the sore by the time you will be induced. Please take your pills exactly as prescribed and dont miss even one. Since you already have to sore the medicine might not eliminate it, it could however heal it faster. Usually they take a week to heal by themselves. With medication you could cut it down to 2-3 days. Are you now taking the medication daily? If not I suggest taking it every day until you deliver. If for some reason the sore doesnt go away then can you ask your doctor if he could wait a little longer?

There is no way to avoid a c-section IF you have a sore present. Its sucks so bad, but its just too dangerous for the baby. Hang in there and pray for everything to work out. Just remember that if you do have a c-section you are having it to protect your baby.

I too am soooo scared. This is my 1st child and I want to have a natural home/water birth. But the herpes is like the grim reaper hovering over my head. I am taking medication every day and so far its working. But my worst fear is having a c-section. I will be praying for both of us. Please pm me if you want to chat since we are going through the same thing, maybe we can help one another through this cause I have my hubby but I dont know anyone else that share my fears.

Oh there is a releif to the itching. Soak in a warm bath with about a cup of baking soda. The baking soda soothes your itchy skin, keeps the sore clean, and helps dry the sore out. Trust me this is the best releif I have found.

hello rosie

well the soar is gone and theburning. now its just the itchness that I have that get on my nerves. its like never ending. it should be something they could do because I am bout to go crazy.

I go to the doctor tomorrow to find out if the test comes back and say herpies hegave me valtrex 1mg twice a day then 500mg daily. this is new to me.

its like if I had this why ddnt it show up with my two yr old by the same guy and im quite sure it don't take two yrs to get symptoms. at first I am thinking yeast infection cuz of the white discharge or a severe one.

I will keep u posted after tomorrow.

yeah the itching sounds like it could be from something else. Like I said the sores itch but they are so painful you almost cant scratch cause it hurts so bad. The itchiness also goes away when the sore goes away. Make sure to bring up the itchyness and discharge with your doctor when you see him.

hey I went t the doctor and he said the test was positive for herpies and that I would have to keep taking the meds until I deliver.

the second is that I have a yeast infection which I thought I had so I have a creame for that so I can stop the itch and he gave me a pill.

I go back tuesday for highrisk doctors to see when I can deliver because now I have two things to worry bout my asthma and herpies. right now no out break which is good so the sooner I deliver would be better.

Im in the same boat!!

I found this site when I googled herpes and pregnancy.
I am 20 weeks pregnant with my second child. I found out i have the cold sore strand of herpes but I get them down south due to my ex not telling me he had one prior to oral sex.
I found this out 4 years ago with my first outbreak. i cried and cried. A few months later I got pregnant with my daughter. She is fine and healthy. I had her vaginally.
I am now 20 weeks pregnant and newly married and what do you know.... I get an out break!! grrr. This is only the 3rd time I've had an out break so it seems to be an average of just over a year in between each outbreak.
I am so miserable and it hurts so bad. I have a cluster of 4 of them. I'm worried about spreading the virus to my new husband as well as my daughter and unborn child. I wash my hands all the time and use disinfectant all day long. I hear you can get the virus in your eyes and nose too so I am pretty scared. What really has me upset is the fact that you can pass the virus even when you don't have an outbreak! So what does that mean for out unborn children? My first never got it and I have never been on medication for it. I have a Dr. appointment on Tuesday this week so I will ask her about putting me on the medication you talked about in this forum. I do not want to have a C section and I'm scared about the baby since this is the first time I have had an outbreak during a pregnancy. I'm scared!

Hi Stephanie. Welcome. You will find tons of great stuff on this site.

You can only pass the virus to your baby if he/she comes into contact with it through the birth canal. Or you can transfer it if you have a herpes outbreak, oral and genital, and that sore comes into contact with the baby.

If you have a genital outbreak you probably wont give it to your baby..lol. But if you have an oral outbreak dont kiss him and just keep your hands clean. Whenever you come into contact with your sore just wash your hands.

The fact that you can pass it when you dont have an outbreak is just a risk thats there. You cant really do anything about that.

hello all...

I had the baby july 23rd and had him vaginally. the doctor cheecked me during labor and saw I did not have an outbreak and my cervix was fine. what I did get was two doce of antibodies to protect the baby he is fine he weighed 7lbs 10oz.
I know that ur scared but talked to your doctor and find out if u can take the valtrex. it helped me but again I had a yeast infection and that made mine worse. every case is different. this was my first outbreak ever and the doctor say I may not have another that bad but I will be careful...

keep me posted.

I will talk to my Dr. about the daily meds for herpes. This really sucks. I'm so uncomfortable! It hurts to sit or do anything else for that matter. I worry for the baby. I go to the Dr in 3 days. I also get to find out if I'm having a boy or a girl on that day! I look forward to that.
I'm glad it all worked out for you chay. It gives me hope that I can have a natural delivery as well. I'm glad you and the baby are healthy!

hello to all

sorry havnt post any baby info but yet been busy with the newborn. will post soon.

yes they do hurt when I had my first one it was uncomfortable. I took warm baths and try witch hazel the work as well until the sore is gone. its hard but when u go into labor let them know u have GBS so they can check your cervix for any outbreak.

they gave me antibodies two doses before I went into active labor. they gave me that to protect the baby before he was born.. ask ur doctor.

It does not usually take 2 years to get symptoms. Most women have an outbreak within 3-21 days of exposure.

IT could be very possible that your 'man' was not shedding the virus much at all, and it just so happened that he shed it at that time.

Shedding the virus means that you can transmit it, and this can happen without any sores present.
