HIDA scans and gallbladders Posted: 06-23-08 06:50am
I went to get a HIDA scan on Friday and it
was very painful. Is that normal ? It
could have been compared to child birth.
It actually felt like some one was inside
of me twisting and stabbing my abdomin. It
was absolutly terrible. What I would like
to know is that normal? And what does it
usually mean?

Current medical treatment: I have been to
several docs and I was sent to a
specialist and he had me get a HIDA scan.
A HIDA scan is usually not painful. You
probably had strong contractions of the
gallbladder muscles. A HIDA scan measures
the gallbladder’s ejection fraction and
serves to evaluate gallbladder function. A
HIDA scan is usually used to diagnose
functional disorders of the gallbladder.
An abdominal ultrasound and CT-scan can
help to visualize the gallbladder’s
anatomic structure.
