High school pregnant teen ?
Posted: 03-07-08 21:28pm

I am 18 years old in my last year of high school and my girlfriend thinks she is pregnant and we have looked at the symptoms and she has had a couple of them with soreness of breasts, headaches, hunger(not sure if that is one), and cramps like its her period. In a way I want a kid but I am really scared to have a child now. We both plan on being together forever and she already lives at my house. We have been going out for 2 years now and we don't tend to fight we communicate well together. She is taking birth control and never forgot to take her pills thats why we are skeptical I know it is still possible although but I need some help I am so scared to be a father because I want to give my child every opportunity they deserve, but don't want to be over protective. I do make good money so supporting the kid isn't to much of a problem. Please help with what else I can do, she is taking a pregnancy test next week the day before her period and 2 the day she should get her period. Any input would be great thanks.

Those aren't pregnancy symptoms. Symptoms start after your period is late.

I don't know if it's in her head but her last period she said seemed to be not as long and less blood but I don't know if she just thinks that or not.

That happens on the pill. Its one of the WONDERFUL side effects, your period gets lighter! Yay!

If she was already pregnant (before her period started) a pregnancy test would be postive now.

You should invest in some condoms too. That will protect you further from pregnancy and your girlfriend can stop being so paranoid.

She isn't pregnant. It all sounds perfectly normal.

All those side affects are hormones, and can be caused by both birth control and having an expected period. So she has not missed a period? Have you guys considered testing? Just to put your mind ta ease?

There is no physical way for her to be experiencing pregnancy symptoms yet. She is probably not pregnant. The pill mimics pregnancy, so many symptoms of pregnancy are the same as ones you get being on the pill.

Actually she could be feeling pregnancy symptoms this early. If you don't believe me, check out some TTC forums and look at some success stories.

But really, the only way to tell for sure is to get a pregnancy test. If you're really worried, a doctor could do a blood test this early, but generally they don't like to do them until after a positive home pregnancy test.

Actually, many women convince themselves of the symptoms they're hoping to get before their body actually produces them. Especially women who are trying to conceive, or even women who are fearful they might be pregnant, and it's very common. As soon as they read about the symptoms they think they have them all the time because they're hoping so bad that they have/don't have them. Read half of the "I think I'm pregnant" posts around here and girls claim to have all the symptoms and then reply a week later saying they got their period

Edit: Oh sorry, I didn't realize this post was this old, since it was brought to the top by a deleted comment. I was going to delete this, but I decided against just in case someone else reads this thread since it's already here.

Usually the first signs are after your period is late, and its usually stuff like headaches and fatigue, cramping and moodiness and sore boobs (not speaking for everyone but thats what I had) But it wasn't till my period was a few days late, like I said everyone is different, but hearing other stories, mine is pretty much the norm. You don't tend to get major hunger early on. Also most of the time, except for some exceptions, a girl will not get even a light period. It sounds to me like her birth control is working. I was on the pill for 6 years, and I had lighter periods, I also had bleeding in between periods. And I gained weight on it. Though if your still really worried, have her take a test, or a blood test, which would be more accurate. Well Good Luck
