If the contents of a bottle of k-y liquid
are tainted with blood or semen containing
the hiv virus, can the virus survive in
that liquid environment, and thus be
transmitted if applied to one's genitalia
or an open wound?

HIV needs to be in the right environment
to survive. It dies thirty seconds after
it leaves the body. It cannot survive in
K-Y liquid. Hepatitis C can survive
outside the body for about 6 weeks.
Nasty.

No, HIV will not survive in KY jelly. The
HIV structure is weak. Even if it remains
active, its component parts may have
broken down to the extent that it becomes
unable to infect.
Do not worry about HIV in KY.
