Hormone imbalance after pregnancy Posted: 05-07-08 08:26am
My baby boy was born on 15 August '07 and
passed away shortly after due to brain
damage. Now I've got a hormone problem.
I've been to my gynaecologist for
treatment. Physically there's nothing
wrong, but he tested my hormones and found
a deficiency. I was on very strong
treatment for a month but with no change.
I get a slight discharge every month which
I suspect is supposed to be my period, but
I'm getting worried now because it's been
nearly nine months. How long can this last
and at what stage should i worry about
infertility? Is this normal?

I do know that it's fairly common for
hormone imbalance after pregnancy. As far
as infertility, I don't think you have to
worry about that any time soon- a simple
hormonal imbalance can be treated with
medication if you want to get pregnant.
I tried to do some online research but
couldn't find any good answers. Did you
doc hint at a reason for the imbalance, or
just recovery from pregnancy?
My condolences for your loss.

Thanx for your reply. My doctor said it's
probably due to stress, especially after
my baby was born prematurely (at 35,5
weeks) and I feel that the medication
prescribed to hold him back was the cause
of his brain damage, as there's no other
explanation (none of the doctors could
tell me what happened). I am very unhappy
about that and will probably never get
over that, but I know life goes on. When I
went to my doctor he had blood tests done
but he didn't say much about what the
problem is. In the mean time I have taken
Clomid to try and get pregnant, and have
done ovulation tests this month and it
seems like something is happening. I so
badly want to give my other boy a brother
or sister so hold thumbs for me!

Make sure to take care of yourself- take
time to relax and grieve, do things you
enjoy, etc.
Best of luck! Baby dust!!

Oh I am so sorry for your loss! I cannot
imagine the pain and suffering of losing a
child that late in pregnancy. You poor
thing!
There is a such a thing as hormonal
imbalance after pregnancy, and I don't
know how common it is, but I have it right
now (and I've never had it before) and a
friend of mine has it too. I am currently
breastfeeding, but my cycle always returns
three months after the baby is born, and
this is my 6th child. Not here yet and
it's driving me crazy.
Progesterone counteracts and balances the
estrogen. The estrogen builds up in your
body until your period, and since you
haven't had a period for 9 months and
aren't breastfeeding, it's not healthy for
you to keep that much estrogen buildup
inside you. It causes long term health
problems.
I think getting on birth control can
regulate it too, which you might want to
consider. There is a certain treatment
that can make your period start, but I am
unsure of the name. You'll have to talk
to your doctor. Again, I don't know much
about it personally, but my friend has
this done as well. You can also try a
progesterone cream to try to spike your
fertility. It's called Happy PMS and is
safe to use when you use as directed and
safe for pregnancy too, and will help with
your mood.
I hope you are successful: baby dust to
you my dear.
