Is there any way that initial exposure to
a retrovirus such as HTLV could cause
symptoms similar to those of acute HIV?
(rash, fever, candida, stiffness in
muscles) Also, would a test for HTLV be
easy to get? Thanks alot

Individuals infected with HTLV are at risk
for opportunistic infections (infection
caused by pathogens that usually do not
cause disease in a healthy immune
system).
Candida infection is an opportunistic
one.
HTLV infection can be detected by a
specific blood test. This blood test
detects HTLV antibodies that the body will
produce shortly after becoming infected
with HTLV, in order to fight the
infection.
