I just heard...

My baby's heartbeat for the very first
time!
I'd been using the doppler low down, just
above my pubic bone, like various websites
had been telling me to do with no luck.. &
then someone told me to try using it a
couple of inches higher than that, so I
did.. & voila! Straight away I heard it,
loud & clear!
The heartrate was steady in the 160s..
quite a lot faster than Jenny's was if I
remember correctly. There was a lot of
kicking & moving about going on in there
too so I know this one's an active little
baby!
Ahh.. I'm so happy.. it just makes this
whole thing more real. I don't have a bump
yet & I sometimes forget I'm pregnant
(although starting off my day with my head
in the toilet is a harsh reminder) but
hearing that was just amazing.. there's a
little person in there kicking & wriggling
& getting bigger every day.
Here's a clip of it: Baby.mp3
Hope it works!

It's a "babywatcher" one.. I wanted one
with an LCD display so I could see the
heartrate & that one seemed like the
best value for money.
I nearly got the angelsounds one but at
the time it seemed too good to be true
(price-wise.. it's a lot cheaper than most
dopplers).. but I've since heard a lot of
good things about them, women have found
the heartbeat with them from as early as 8
weeks. I kinda wish I'd got one now, but
I'm happy with this one.. it's easy to use
& the sound is very clear.

Congratulations, Zanny! We just saw our
baby's heartbeat for the first time
yesterday on ultrasound so I definitely
understand how exciting that is!

aww, that's so cool! i should play it for
esme to remind her of the womb.
that's so great! i wish i'd had a doppler
during my pregnancies.
did jenny hear it? finn came to all my
appointments with me and he'd always get
this funny look on his face and cock his
head when we listened to the heartbeat.
the midwife said he probably recognized
the sound!

I tried to find the heartbeat for her to
listen to but it wasn't half as loud as
the first time, & baby moved away
quite quickly so she didn't get to hear it
properly. I'll let her listen to the
recording tomorrow. She dances to my
heartbeat when the doppler picks it up, so
she'll probably do the same when she hears
the baby's

I have an AngelSounds one and it picks up
great but it doesn't show the heartrate. I
think the one you have is better. It's
like the one my midwife uses. Before I was
able to feel my baby I would just lay
there and listen to her heartbeat forever.
It's amazing

I don't know yet.. It's supposed to be a
"12 week scan" (although it's done
anywhere between 12 & 14 weeks), &
my midwife said at my booking in
appointment (at 10 weeks) that I would
receive a letter telling me when the scan
is. Well, so far, no letter. I got one the
other day for an appointment with a
specialist in July (they're keeping an eye
on me after 20 weeks to look out for signs
of another IUGR baby) but no scan letter!
I'm going to ring the hospital if it's not
here by friday.

Oh I love that sound. I would wear one of
those things out in a week, just listening
all day long. So happy for you. Hope you
get your scan soon.

Wow, that was so cool! I never got to be
in the room when my sister got her scans
done (don't know why) so it's really cool
to be able to hear it now
