I was diagnosed w/MRSA today...... Posted: 05-09-08 14:28pm
And Im starting to get a little concerned.
Well more like freaking out. When I told
my mom her jaw dropped and she looked
really scared. I have started to do some
research but not enough yet. Does anyone
know anything about this?
I had a abscess on my leg about a month
ago. They had to cut it out of my thigh. I
took the antibiotics and its gone away. I
just have a hunk of scar tissue and its
discolored. Very dark and purple.
The cultures came back positive for MRSA.
They did swabs of my nose today to see if
the bacteria actually left my body or not.
So I will know if Im stuck with it, I
guess.
So does this bacteria really stay with me
my entire life? Can I pass it to people?
If so how? WHat about my baby? Will he be
fine? Can I pass it to him after birth? I
would have asked all of these questions at
the doctor but I had no idea how serious
this was. I had never heard of it. So I
assumed that they were just double
checking to make sure I had no infection.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I dont know anything about the affects of
MRSA on your baby, but my neice was just
diagnosed with this. She is onnly 2 years
old. Im pretty sure you dont have it your
entire life, but you can get it back after
you get rid of it.
It is very contagious and you shouldnt
share anything like towels, or personal
items with anyone else as you could pass
it on to them. It is simply a skin
bacterial infection.
The medical name for it is
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus
aureus...which might help you find some
information about it.
I hope that helps you some.

I also do not know alot about it but last
semester in one of my classes a girl that
had it spoke to us about it. She said
hers got quite bad and they had to remove
a large section of skin and she was on
lots of medicines and in the hospital for
a while... I really hate to tell you that.
But hopefully you caught it soon enough
and such. I know she didn't go to the
doctor about it for a while because she
just thought it was a rash or something..
You should just give your doctor a call
and ask all these questions again so they
can clear everything up for you!! I hope
you get better and all goes ok!

We had a MRSA scare at one of the homes I
supervise and my OB demanded I not go in
while I was pregnant. She actually wrote
me a doctors note.
It's very contagious.
It's serious. I'd talk to your doc ASAP.

Dr. Phil actually had a show all about
MRSA awhile back... im sure you could find
it on youtube or something if you were
interesed... it had lots of good
information and conversations with people
that have it... definitely something that
can be potentially very serious, its worth
taking a look anyways.

Luke has MRSA in his lungs. His doctors
are not worried and in fact it is normal
for CF kids. I asked about it being
contagious and they said only if he coughs
on someone's wound and then the person
doesn't properly care for it. He is in
isolation whenever we go to the hospital,
which (not to hi-jack your thread) he is
in the hospital now. We are having a short
stay though and he is coming home
tomorrow.
Anyways, I personally think that the media
has played it up and Luke's dr's said the
same thing. Most dr's and nurses are
colonized with MRSA too btw.

Thank you Musikmker. From what I have
researched so far its not that serious as
long as you take care of it. I have also
learned that there are two types. Once
that attacks your organs and blood and
another that is just skin and staph
infections. I most likely have the less
severe form. But I will not know anything
until my cultures come back. Once they
come back I will talk to my doctor about
this. I was freaking out so bad, so thank
you everyone for the replys. I feel much
better. In the mean time I will be careful
and clean..lol.
Sorry to hear Luke is in the hospital. Is
it due to MRSA? It doesnt sound like it.
But either way I hope he gets better soon,
he sure is a trooper. I give you much
respect as a mother, it must be difficult.
