In my opinion, there is no gay or straight... Posted: 04-17-08 11:58am
Hi, first off, just wanted to say I'm new
here, and I am in a heterosexual
relationship, but I am also the vice
president of the GLBT group where I live.
This is just my opinion, and I'm not
saying this is always true, and for
everyone...and I'm not talking about sex
here, but attraction, a big difference.
I'm talking about loving a person of
either sex, not how that person's
genitalia turns you on.
I don't think that people can be
classified as gay or straight though. I
hate labels. I think people are just
attracted to whomever they are attracted
to. I am attracted to my husband, for the
loving and kind person he is. I am also
attracted to my ex-girlfriend for the
smart, sensitive, funny, and in charge
person she is. I think attraction is more
than just being sexually turned on by what
a person looks like (or what's between
their legs...). I think attraction is when
your soul seeks a soul in another person
and finds something in that person's soul
that makes your soul rejoice. Looking at
it that way, anyone could be attracted to
anyone else...all based on the kind of
person that person is on the inside, not
what is on the outside.
Examples, my mom is a straight women, who
loves her best friend (a woman she has
known since she was four) more than almost
anyone. She would die for her friend. That
is love. Her soul was and is attracted to
her friend's soul.
I'm attracted to certain celebrities who
do great work in good will around the
world. They strive to help children and
poor people all over the globe. I am
attracted to these celebrities (both man
and woman) not only because they are
visually attractive (which most people in
the world men and women would agree with),
but because they touch my soul with their
efforts, and my soul want to go forth and
help also.
This is just my two cents. I think people
are attracted to who they are attracted
to, it doesn't have much to do with sex. I
know gay men who are occasionally
attracted to women they find have
attractive hearts, and I know gay women
who are attracted to the hearts of men.
Thanks, and please don't be too harsh on
me, I didn't mean to offend anyone, I'm
just a psychologist who hates
labels...(Don't get me started on my
hatred for gender labels on children!!!)

I hate labels too, Chanel. Especially when
other people take the liberty of labeling
others. It's ok to label yourself if
that's what you want to be labeled as, but
when we label others, that's when we get
in trouble.
If people just loved regardless of what
their percieved labels of others are,
could you imagine what would happen?? Ahh,
the world woudl be so much better!
Thanks for your thoughts. I enjoyed them!

I have always believed in my heart that we
can love equally man or woman. It is the
soul that touches us first and foremost.
If that were not true, why did so many
people chose to live monastic lives
separated from what was considered proper
for their times and what their families
expected of them. To live the norm.
Some, actually, many are happy with being
in the company they chose to live their
lives in.
What is love? Is it to honestly be able
to love unconditionally? I strive for
that, but sometimes fail miserably. But,
I still want that to happen for me. And,
I will keep trying.
One thing I know, and, it is true, MDSO,
will always be there for me giving me
support and helping me to grow on this
pathway through life.

You are really a very gifted artist. You
are always coming up with the best
avatars. I loved your DeVinci one a lot
and now the ying/yang one.
Will send you pictures to help you get one
up for me. My babies arre now almost 3
feet tall so you know how that goes with
your own little puppy family.
