incisional hernia
Posted: 04-24-08 12:40pm

My Husband is suffering from a incisional hernia.
After a large operation on the side of his belly (bought on by appendix bursting).

They fixed the hernia with pigs skin as it was so big.
The problem he has now is scar tissue which makes one side of his belly stick out.
The hospital he is attending do not know where to go from here.
We live in the Uk and just dont know if there are any laporosocopy specialist in or near our area (south east)

Advice more than welcome.

Hi

Sorry to hear this.Sad

Can you call around or look online for a specialist?

Did he return to the doctor who did his hernia/appendix?

I have started to look around on line, but no specific answers etc.
He is under his local hospital at the moment, but they seem to be washing there hands of him.
He does not want to see his orginal Dr who performen his appendix as we think that he perforated his bowl while taking the appendix out. Therefor he caught septicemia, pneamonia and had a collapsed lung and was on life support (touch and go) the first time he was operated.
Tried to sue but solicitors said it was to harder case to prove etc.
His scar is right across one side of his belly and is noticable with tops on.

Wow, I really am sorry for all you've been through.
How is he doing now?
How are you doing?

Is there another surgeon outside of your area that he can see?

Did the hospital do any scans or testing to make sure there's no other problem from hernia repair ?

I know there's a lot of questions here, I'm wondering if he developed a keliod scar which is a thick, wide scar that is raised...some people form these types of scars and not much can be done except have an experienced surgeon/plastic surgeon take a look at the scar.
Best Wishes..I hope he feels better soon..Smile

Yeah it is a wide deep scare that sticks out on one side of his belly.
The hospital still keep an eye on him but think they are now scratching heads.
Any work that has to be done on him has to be keyhole otherwise there is a big risk of infection as the pigs skin (mesh) covers one side of his belly.

Thats what we need, an experienced key hole surgeon, but where do we find one?

Hi Charley
I found this site, I'm not sure if it will help you.

http://www.laparoscopi c-specialist.co.uk/

If not let me know where in the UK you are and I'll look around for you.
I'll ask others also if they know of any doctor in the UK.
