increase in floaters with flashes of light Posted: 05-18-08 09:37am
I'm 22yrs old and about 2 months ago i had
an increase in the amount of floaters. Ive
never really had a problem with them
before and only noticed one or two if i
looked at something white for a long time,
but now they seem to be everywhere. I've
also noticed little flashing lights
occasionally. Sometimes they are white and
other times they seem to be light blue. I
think they seem to happen when i move my
eyes, but they only seem to last 1/2 a
second to 1 second. They appear on the
peripheral of the vision and the centre
sometimes, and if i go to look at them
they disappear.
I've been to an optitians and told him
about floaters and little lights and he
seemed to not be overly bothered. He said
my eyesight was fine, although apparently
i had something called optical stones
(although i cant find anything on this on
the internet), which he said wouldnt give
me any side effects apparently.
Another thing i have noticed is that if i
look at something bright it seems to
imprint for longer than previously - e.g
if i have my photo taken the flash dot
hangs around for a while, or if i look at
a computer screen i can see a box when i
look at something like a white
wall....hope that makes sense it is
difficult to explain and i dont know
whether i am just being overly paranoid
about everything and focusing too much on
that when usually i wouldnt notice it.
I also dont know if its related but i have
really bad sinuses and sinus pressure and
when this started i had sinusitis, which
seems to have mostly cleared up. It's not
due to bad headaches either, as although i
do get migraines they have never resulted
in lights or anything in the past.
i've read about Vitreous Detachment but
this seems to be more of an elderly
condition, can it happen to young people
too? Wouldn't my optitian have noticed
something like this?
I'm a major major hypocondriac and im
worrying myself sick over what is wrong
and getting overly paranoid, so if anyone
has any help i would appreciate it thank
you.

Floaters and Flashes Posted: 07-17-08 03:22am
Ya I am only 16 and a few months ago I
went to a doctor and he said that I have a
Vitreous Detachment and now the floaters
and flashes seem to be getting worse for
me, but he said that my eyes were
perfectly normal and yes I am HUGE worrier
when it comes to stuff like this.

Hello,
I would HIGHLY recommend you seeing a
retina specialist. Floaters/flashes can be
signs of retina detachment. This is
serious and must be checked. Early
treatment is necessary if this is the
case. I am not saying this is what you
have going on, but I would check into it
and be sure. This can happen to young
people although more common in the
elderly. My son is 20 years old and had
spontaneous detachment! Please get a
second opinion and get a referral to
retina specialist!! GOOD LUCK & Take
care!!

hey, i have experience this floaters in
june. i must admit this make me stressed.
i have been to doctor and the give me
vitrolent and vitamin pil. it didn't work.
i am desperate. but until i find a chinese
doctor ( modern nutritional chinese
medicine) he said that the problem with
the eye because your lever too weak. he
said i must eat supplement food for
lever. he said human must not sleep over
11 clock at night because when 11 until 1
a clock our body make a regeneration cell
for lever. in 11 a clock you must already
have lie in bed! don't do any activity,
just lie until you sleep. he give me a
tradisional medicine too. i try this and
this is work! good thing!. my floaters
much more less than before. so everyone
who got floaters can go to modern
nutritional chinese medicine it will help
a lot. GOD BLESS.
