induction without epi ?

OK. So I had a docs apt this morn and he
checked me for the first time to see if I
was progressing. I am 38 weeks and he
said my cervix was softened but as far as
dialated it was not much at all...only
like a 1. So he wanted to go ahead and
schedule me for inducing...Just in case he
doesn't show soon. He said he is worried
about the baby getting too big for me to
deliver vaginally. So we set the date for
next monday (23rd). Now I am freaking
out. It was just like "oh yeah he could
come any day." Now it is set in stone that
I am going in a week from today and will
have a baby I guess since it
is my first I am just so nervous and have
so many emtions going on right now.
Anyway, when I got home I had blood
everywhere. So I called my doc office and
they said it was normal as long as I had
no cramping with it. So far no cramping
but 6 hours later and I am still bleeding
a bit. I am hoping he may have helped me
along and I won't have to be induced. I
so wanted to try and do it without an epi.
Now that he is planning on inducing I am
not sure about it. I have heard labor is
more intense when you get induced. Has
anyone ever been induced and not used an
epi?? Anyway, guess we'll see.

I was induced & I didn't have an
epidural. The fact that I was induced just
made the early stages of labour a lot
longer for me.. I was having mild cramps
for hours, which gradually turned into
contractions. I think the induction took
longer for me because it was at 37 weeks
& my cervix wasn't dilated or effaced
at all.
Good luck, I hope it goes well for you.

Thanks. I really wanted to try and do it
w/o the epi. But just the thought.....and
people telling me that labor is worse once
your induced was really freaking me out.
I am still hoping he will just come on his
own before next monday. I read a few
things online to maybe help bring on
labor. I doubt they work, but hey its
worth a try.

Good luck! I hope your little one decides
to come on his/her own. I was induced at
37 weeks 6 days and my labor only lasted 5
hours and then I pushed for one hour. I
should mention though that I was already 5
cm dilated and 95% effaced.

Thanks!!
Yeah my mom said she had to be induced
with my brother, because she was stuck at
5 cm and they could not get her to
progress. She said it was 10am when they
put her on pitocin and by 10:30 he came
I will not get so
lucky. I just keep telling myself
everything is going to be ok. Even though
I didn't really want to be induced it is
better to be than to have to have a
c-section.

Induction isn't fun. It has a high rate of
c-sections.
They started my induction at 9pm and by
noon (15 hours), I was 0% effaced and 1cm.
I was also on medication so when they
asked if I wanted a c-section, I wasn't
hesitant. 12:54pm my little girl was born!
I was 38wk 1day.

I hope all goes well!

Thanks ladies. I am hoping that the full
moon on wednesday will bring
him...wouldn't that be nice. It is my
birthday too. I could have the same
birthday as my son.
Oh I hope that my induction doesn't make
me have to have a c-section. I would
really like to have him naturally.
Besides we don't have insurance and the
cost of a c-section is quit a bit more
than a vaginal birth.
Thanks for all the labor dust. Let's just
hope that full moon thing works. My mil
has worked at the hospital where I will
deliver for almost 30 years. she works in
the nursery. She said they always have
more babies around the time of a full
moon. we'll see.

I'm pretty sure there was a woman who had
quintuplets (5) on her birthday...
Supposedly, that full moon thing is just a
myth, but think about it. The moon affects
the tide which is WATER, and what do we
call it when your membranes break? WATER!
So having more baby around the full moon
isn't too far fetched. That's why (if I
was healthy) I thought I was gonna go over
my due date (due Tuesday, that Saturday
was a full moon)

just remember that you do not HAVE TO BE
INDUCED. You can refuse it if you are
really that unsure about it. How big is
the baby now? What were your last
measurements? If the baby was close to
hitting 10-12 pounds I can understand why
you wouldnt want that to happen. Heck I
wouldnt either! But is it really that
dangerous to just wait? Maybe you can talk
to your doctor and ask if you can make it
to 40+ weeks on your own and then see how
the baby and you are doing. Either way the
baby knows when its ready to be born more
than a doctor can. Unless there are
medical reasons to be induced I wouldnt do
it.
Now dont get me wrong. At your appts you
can check the heart rate and movements to
make sure baby is fine. Thats what I plan
to do. I am attending birth classes for my
1st baby.
My instructor said that labor can be
longer and extermely more painful with the
use of pitocin (medication used to induce)
This medication can also cause you to
contract too fast, they then give you
something to slow it down. All these
medications can interfere with your body's
natural birth responses and even slow
labor and the baby down. Which can cause
the babies heart rate to drop and cause
you extrra stress on your body. The baby
also plays a very important role in labor.
Like turning and getting into position.
These meds can prevent that from happening
also. All these things can up your risk
for c-section. It sounds like you really
want to have your baby natural and YOU
CAN. Its your body and your baby. If you
dont feel comfortable about something you
have a right to say so. Please pm me if
you want.
I am deciding on a no medical intervention
birth. Its been hard to find a doctor and
people to support me in this. But I have
learned A LOT and maybe I can help you
too.
Have faith in your ability as a woman and
mother. You can labor and birth on your
own. We have that power.
Best wishes and I hope your baby comes
soon!!!

Yeah I am sure it is a myth, but heck it
don't hurt to wish upon your lucky
stars----hehehehe. Girl I am going with
it and hoping all that water thing that
the moon does helps my water change too
I do have a question though---for anyone.
I mentioned that when my doc checked me
the other day I started bleeding. Well I
bled all day on monday---a lot right after
he checked me almost like I was on my
period...then for the rest of the day
mostly just when Iwent pee and wiped.
Then yesterday, I had a brown discharge
all day. So far today nothing, but I told
my mil last night and she freaked me out a
bit and said that that much blood sounded
un-normal for a mucus plug. she said she
hoped he didn't dosomething to my
placenta. She is an RN and has worked
maternity ward floor for years. Just
checking if anyone else ever bled after
being checked.

Yeah he is not making me get induced. He
told me it was up to us what we wanted to
do. He just basically told me where i was
at and what he thought and then left it up
to us. The baby is at 8lbs right
now...which is not big, but he feels it
may be to big for ME to deliver vaginally
if I wait any longer. So because of this
and us not having insurance, it is a lot
cheaper to be induced and have him before
he gets bigger than to have a c-section.
It is just so hard to know what MY body is
going to do...you know. Every woman is so
different. My sil has been induced and
had epi's with both of her kids and loves
it....well she knows her body does great
with all that stuff, but will mine?? My
dh and I have decided it will prolly be
for the best for all of us right now to
just go ahead with the doc. Lessons may
be learned If
so we will know for next time.

Being induced two weeks early when your
body is showing no signs of progressing on
its own is risking a c-section anyway. I
would personally wait until my body showed
some progress before I agreed to it.
And the doctors are guessing what the
weight of your baby is. It can be off by
two pounds in either direction, so you
might really have a 6 pounder in there.

I was over-do with my son, so they did a
membrane sweep and it sent me into labor
that night, something you may want to ask
your doctor to instead of being induced.
I didnt get an EPI with either child, I
refused and I dont regret it one bit!!

theres things you can do to try and
naturally stimulate labor like:
walking
sex
nipple stimulation
and more walking and more sex
my bradley instructor said that semen
actually has a chemical in it that aids in
the ripening of the cervix

It will actually be my due date week when
he induces me. So it is not like he is
making me deliver early. As far as how
heavy the baby is, no one knows and I know
that, but it is also taking a risk not
trusting my doc. I do think my body is
getting ready. My cervix is softened, and
I have started dialating. It is not just
me deciding either, I value my dh's
opinion very much and we have talked this
through A LOT!! Believe me, cause I
didn't want to have to be induced and we
have talked and discussed every option,
and decided this is best for this baby.
Like I said before I may learn a lesson,
but I will know for the next one we'll see.

thats great your husband is there to help
make decisions. Mine is the same way. It
sure makes it so much easier on us with
all the important decisions huh?
Well you could try sex and nipple
stimulation...dh would enjoy that and you
can have some fun with it..
As long as your doctor says its ok of
course. I know if your water has broken
you shouldnt have sex.
Best wishes....LABOR DUST

Oh yeah, I have been doing All these
things...except the nipple thing, cause I
actually read that that can put you into
very intense labor. Something about the
hormones that is messes with. I also read
that you have to do it for like 3 hours a
day----I don't have time to sit around
rubbing my tits for 3 hours a
day--HAHAHAHA!!!! As far as walking, I
always walk..before preg and all
throughout too...everyday. So my doc said
because I do it so regularly it may not
have the same effect on me as it does
other women, but I still do it just in
case. Man if there was just some way we
could have a magic button, I would share
it with everyone--
Thanks for all the tips.....we are keeping
up with them all, and hoping for the best.
I have also been drinking raspberry
tea..suppose to help bring on labor and
make the pain less intense. Eating
Pineapple..suppose to help too. We read
so many things online that half of them
prolly don't work, I just took the less
extreme ones and figured it can't hurt to
try.

I know. I couldn't do this without my
wonderful husband. It's not that we can't
make the decision ourselves, its just that
it helps us to make up our minds or make
the best move to have them tell us howthey
feel...you know. He is great.
Yeah my dh did volunteer to help me out
with the nipple stim.--haha. but I
havealready started lactating and that
grosses him out a bit
Not quite the same bbs I use to have for
him He
calls them the babies now. He's funny.

hehe i love pregnancy and how it affects
the husbands. daniel is so cute. I havent
had any milk yet, but very little once in
awhile. But he says he wants one and then
the baby can have the other. I seriously
hope he is joking. That would just be
weird. Right now he loves the pregnacny
boobs. I havent been this plump and firm
since I got them! I could do without the E
cup though, they are getting heavy and
hard to handle..lol.
I had no idea you had to do it for 3
hours!!! Forget that! That just sounds
painful after awhile. Im with you on that
one! Well just keep your good positive
outlook and your baby will be here in no
time.
What are you having?
