I know that this probably seems odd to
those out there with children who don't
like to sleep, but I'm concerned about my
daughter sleeping too much. She has been
sleeping through the night since four
months. Currently, she is seven and a
half months and she sleeps eleven hours at
night, and then takes three naps
throughout the day. She will usually take
her first nap within an hour or two of
waking in the morning. And doesn't stay
awake generally for more than a few hours
at a time before needing to sleep again.
Her naps are usually two hours. I take
her to her crib when she starts fussing
and rubbing her eyes. There's never a
protest when lying her down and she's
asleep within minutes of being put down.
I thought it might just be a growth spurt
thing, but this is pretty consistent. I
obviously don't mind all the sleeping as
it gives me time to do things and to
actually sleep at night, but I just want
to make sure I'm doing all that I can.

I envy you lol. The amount of sleep seems
normal to me for a 7 1/2 mo baby. But I
still envy you hehe. My kids didn't sleep
through the night until they were 8 months
old.

The sleeping through the night isn't
something that you have to worry about.
Babies generally take three naps during
the day as well. Two hours naps is a
normal length. One morning, one afternoon,
and an evening siesta that's most often a
little shorter, is fairly common.
Some babies need less sleep than do
others. At this age in general, babies
need almost 15 hours of sleep! I know it
seems like a lot compared to what we need
doesn't it? If your baby is especially
active when she is awake, or growing
rapidly (which can sometimes last for a
while, don't forget it takes a long time
to cut teeth as well) she may need a
little more. Your baby is almost textbook
here looks like to me.
11 hours at night, plus 2 for the morning,
plus 2 for the afternoon and 1 in the
evening or so makes 15, so I think you are
pretty much on track. Some babies are
also well-tempermented, so you can be
thankful you didn't get one like mine that
likes to take about 11 hours a day and is
fine with it.
Here's one of my most used links: it's my
favorite chart to give to moms dealing
with sleep issues
with their babies

Thanks for the input. I have seen a few
sites that say they suggest less than 13
hours, so I just want to make sure things
are okay. And, I do feel lucky that I
have such a good sleeper. I keep hearing
stories from my mom about how she was
lucky to get me to sleep more than 6
hours.

yeah, that sounds about right. My son is
almost 6 months and has been sleeping all
night since 3 weeks old but he'll normally
stay about about 2 hours in the morning
then a nap time. Sometimes he wont take
one of his naps so he'll sleep a little
longer during another nap but yes. he
sleeps 14-16 hours a day. It's VERY
normal.. good luck with the baby
