Irregular periods are due to a disturbance
in the hormonal axis
hypothalamus-pituitary-ovaries. Irregular
periods are not a sign of pregnancy and a
negative pregnancy test is expected. Women
with irregular periods usually do not have
ovulations and without ovulation the
pregnancy is impossible. Birth control
pills are given to make the periods
regular and to allow spontaneous
establishing of the ovulation after going
off the pills. Taking the pills properly
(one for each day) is absolutely necessary
to achieve cycle regulation.
