So..my dad told me a while ago that since
i filed taxes last year I'd be getting
that stimulus check in the mail...i was
supposed to get around $600 back..which i
REALLY needed since I just got a new car
and I'm just short on cash right
now...weeeeeell i just found out yesterday
that anyone who filed taxes but was
claimed as a dependent doesn't get the
stimulus check...GREAT...thanks Bush for
screwing over every college kid out there
who is thousands of dollars in
debt..nooooooo I dont need the money at
all...yea so...i'm really dissappointed...

I had the same deal, however your parents
are supposed to get a certain amount of
money back for each child they claim. My
parents gave me that money instead of
taking it because I'll really an
independent. It's not $600 but its
something you know?
Is there a reason you let your parents
claim you? I know I did it because they
get a certain amount of money for "helping
me with college" during my freshman and
sophmore year. I got more back for that
than I would have the tax stimulus.

I thought you had to let your parents
claim you if you lived with them? I lived
in the dorms freshman year and sophomore
year bc i was away at school, but then I
transferred back to a college here closer
to home and am now living with my parents
again since I'm unable to work fulltime
through the year( I'm trying to get into
nursing school so I pretty much spend all
my time with my books studying instead of
working haha) I dont think my parents are
getting anything back from the government
actually...not that they've
mentioned..they do have pretty decent jobs
that pay well, not that I ever see any of
it!..well..besides the luxury of living
with them lol....but they said they werent
getting anything either...i guess the
government doesn't think they need it
either....always takin from the middle
class...

No that's not right. Every household that
qualified for the stimulus is supposed to
get $300 per child they claimed. I'm
pretty sure they qualified-- the income
needed to be $3000 a year. I only work
summers and I wasn't even close to not
qualifying. I don't think there was really
anything that made someone unqualified
except for the income and someone about
being a US citizen.
The IRS did forget to send that out to a
load of people so make sure your parents
tell someone so they can get their money!

$300 for single
$600 married filling jointly
$300 per kid under the age of 17
and if u are being claimed you dont get
nothing.
and its not $3000 is 1200 u would have to
pay in taxes
and you can even get some if you claim
self employed because it usually evens out
with kids EIC but you would get less. and
the max amount a person can recieve is
$1800.
any questions? i have been doing taxes and
got my certificate for t he past 4yrs glad
to help

actually ur parents get EIC for you
because you are still in school and if you
are in college and under the age of 24
they can claim you even if you dont live
with them, unless ur married and are
working a full time job... and if they are
not getting enough back they should check
if they are taking the right deductions.

if you are under the age of 24 you dont
get your own exemption thats why if you
would put your school (how much you pay)
you would get nothing...thats most people
recommend claimming you because wen you
put down the school info they have to put
your name and you have to be a dependent
in order for them to get anything for the
school they paid.

my boyfriend is getting a stimulus check
and is under the age of 24 ? he lives on
his own though...
also, my dad did ALOT with stock last year
and...we'll just say made..a very very
nice lump sum..enough to get his 08
corvette he wanted..in cash..soooo, they
said since they did "so well" they weren't
getting anything back? possibly because
they owe on taxes, maybe thats why they
said they're not getting anything? I HATE
taxes!!!!! booooooooo....haha...i think
whenever i get out on my own i'm gonna
have them done for me
