low back, hip and thigh pain
Posted: 07-20-08 21:20pm

Hi everyone.

I'm glad I found this forum.

Here's my story...

I've had back troubles for years. Easily 20 or so.

I've done alot of construction related jobs and it takes it's toll.

Recently, my back went out. Really low, like down in the tailbone/hip
area of my right side.

Hurt like mad. It happens.

Usually, after a few days it'll start feeling better and then I'm set to
go in a week or two.

This has gone on for almost a month. Never really went "back in" so
to speak.

the past couple of weeks, I felt like I had sciatica on the right side.

Wouldn't be the first time. Usually stretching and excersize gets me
rolling again.

Four days ago, the tight, aching feeling started getting worse. I wonder
if I aggrivated it by going to the gym. Hadn't been in quite awhile.

That night, I went to bed in pain and woke up around 1am with the
worst pain I've ever had in my live. No broken bone, dislocation or
anything else even comes close.

I went to the doctor yesterday, totally exhausted. Haven't slept much in
days.

They did an x-ray, didn't see anything, then gave me a PILE of drugs and
sent me home.

I'm on some steroid pack thingy, percocet, and some other drug for
muscle cramps or something.

I FEEL HORRIBLE!

I'm so stressed out. I saw my chiropractor after that first night. For some
reason he mentioned that this his how his father found out the had
cancer. He died a month later.

Yesterday, when I tried to walk, my right let would almost give out.
I've never EVER had that before and now I"m REALLY freaked out.

The drugs are making me feel horrible. I HATE pain meds. Clarity is
really important to me. But this pain was so far over the top I can't
manage it at all without resorting to drugs.

The cancer thing REALLY messed up my head. Of course the first thing
I did was get on the internet and start reading about cancer.

Good God!

Does anyone know what this could be?

I have an MRI scheduled, but only for the lower back. Shouldn't they
do at least a CT of the hip and thigh as well?

Seems like a pretty narrow minded approach to just focus on the spine.

I'm really scared.

Any help at all would be great.

Thank you,

Ric

I think I found the CAUSE of this blasted pain.

IT'S MY BLASTED KNEE!

It all makes sense.

Several weeks ago, while working on my trailer, something popped or tore
in my right knee.

I've had surgery on that one.

I've been compensating and walking funny since.

DUH!

THEN my back went out.

When I rub the outside of my knee, it hurts SO bad but at the same time
causes my thigh, hip and back to relax.

Holy smokes!

I'm gonna go see my CP this morning and a GP this afternoon.

I'm pretty sure I'm on the right track.

Wow... I wonder how many folks go through this and end up getting surger
on the SPINE to fix the problem.

Anyway, we'll see what gives.

I'll keep y'all posted.

Hello Rikks,

Welcome to this forum.

After a morning in our gardens in this heat and humidity, I need a bit of time for the AC to cool off my body and mind. I'll respond later today.

Do let us know your your appointment with your doctor goes.

Take care.

I CAN WALK!

My CP worked on me for over an hour.

He hooked up a muscle stim and POW! The knee litteraly popped and
self adjusted when he used just a small bit of pressure with his finger
on the muscle just above the outside of the knee.

Really wierd.

He left me on the stim for about 15 minutes and then came in and
shut it off.

I got right up and started walking normaly!!!

Bloody amazing. I never expected results so dramatic or swift.

I have to wear the stim for four days.

My back and hip feel sore and tired but that's it.

What a relief.

Hello Rikks,

WOW, what GREAT news!!!! Very glad that you now can walk after seeing your CP. I hope things continue to go well for you.

HOWEVER, to be honest, I don't think this one visit will solve your back issues. I would highly recommend that you seek the advice of the best spinal surgeon you can find in your area. In fact, get a second opinion from the next one on your list.

I'm with you on the pain med thing. Pain meds do NOT correct the problem, they only cover it up, get you addicted to them and make your life (from my experience) a mess.

Do stay in touch!

Have a GREAT Day!!

Well I made it through the day in a much more active fashion.

Whew.

I was freaked.

Had my back xrayed today. Minor arthritis but otherwise normal.

Granted, it doesn't show soft tissue or anything. Still have to do the MRI.

I'm convinced that the knee started the whole thing.

It's amazing how quick we got results.

I had the stim unit on most of the day.

Took it off for about half an hour and when I put it back on and turned it
on, something went "clunk" deap in my lower back.

That's the blasted spot that's been bound up so badly.

Couldn't get to it with the CP or massage.

Wow.

This is all about change of lifestyle.

My sins have come home to roost.

Since I split up with my wife of 12 years, I've been a mess.

Way too much smoking and drinking and depression.

Made a bunch of calls today.

Got an exam comming up Thursday with my doc and start counseling on
Friday.

Enough is enough.

Anyway, that's the update for now.

Peace,

Ric

Of all the things you could have said...

I have NO patience with myself.

I'm crying right now.

This has been a tough year to say the least.

So much pain.

This is a wake up call.

What has been in my spirit it now in my body.

Thank you for writing.

Thank you for wishing me peace.

Well... my troubles are far from over.

Had HORRIBLE, UNBEARABLE pain in the middle of the night last night.

Went to the E.R. they were no help at all.

All these people want to do is give me drugs.

I HAD to take the stupid pain pills last night, so now I feel horrid.

The fact that I'm experiencing such intense pain at night has me
terrified.

I've got constant fearful dialogue going on in my mind.

I'm just convinced that it's cancer.

There's no one here to help me.

I live alone.

Called my son and begged him to come out for a week or two and he
said he had too much going on.

I'm heartbroken.

Seems like no one in my life is available.

This is just aweful.
