Meds for Anxiety and ADD
Posted: 07-24-08 13:32pm

I had my first visit with a psychiatrist last week and she diagnosed me as having moderate ADD (inattentive) and moderate anxiety. I have had stomach problems for years due to anxiety (nervousness, restlessness, etc.) I'm not sure if they are related, but my guess is yes. My doctor wanted to let me think about treatment options until I see her again next week. My ADD is effecting my job performance and relationship with my fiancee (forgetfulness, lack of focus, missing parts of discussions). I would like to take medication for both my anxiety and ADD. Do you have any suggestions of what I could take together. I know it will require a lot of trial and error, but I would really appreciate your experience and knowledge!!

Thanks

It really comes down to what works for you. Some of the meds for ADD will give you more anxiety and some of the meds for anxiety will have sedative effects and make you tired cranky and/or make the ADD worse. Trial and error costs alot of money and time, especially with the ADD meds. I've tried almost everything for both and the best solution is going to bed early and giving up alcohol. I'm guessing the ADD is worse in the first part of the day and the anxiety in the latter. If you can get to bed early and not drink it should help with the lack of focus during the day and maybe you should take something for anxiety in the evening to help you wind down so you get enough sleep. If you are not a drinker you should try a mood stabablizer like depakote but it's very expensive even with health insurance. I'm still up at 3 AM because of my mood disorders. This is when I feel the most relaxed even though I know I'll feel worse in the morning. I have to go to bed now but I think we have alot in common so I'll get back to you 2morrow.
