Meds for cocaine addiction Posted: 06-19-08 08:21am
In a few weeks, assuming I get health
insurance, I plan to resume working with
my doctor about meds to help with my brain
chemistry.
I've studied up on cocaine recovery and
the brain, and I understand it will take
time for my dopamine levels or system to
get back in balance.
I learned about Baclofen in treatment - to
help with cravings. Tried it but it
didn't help I don't think so I stopped.
The cravings (specifically recall...images
going through my head and dreams) have
slowly gone away. They aren't gone
though, I never know when something might
pop up.
I also tried Effexor, which I don't think
was the right antidepressant for me. My
Doctor is sharp, but he has no experience
with helping recoverying coke-heads.
Unfortunately, it's pretty clear that
brain meds like these are a crap shoot.
It will take trial and error to find
something that truly helps.
So my question is, does anyone have any
experience to relate? My Doctor knows I'm
pretty sharp and he is willing to listen
to whatever ideas I have on what to
try...
Wellbutrin?
I've read cocaine recovery mimics BiPolar
Disorder...so the meds that work could be
the same.
Here's what I want to address with meds to
whatever degree possbiel: I have racing
thoughts. Can't sleep sometimes. I'm
depressed. My body aches. I can't focus.
I feel 'tragic' and get in ruts of
negative thinking that kill my motivation
to be productive. I have an overall sense
that 'everything is NOT ok'
