Memorial Day 2008 Posted: 05-24-08 13:09pm
Hello everyone,
To start, I would like to wish all of you
a very nice holiday weekend. And, if I
could, just another wish that you take a
moment to remember the men and women who
died defending your country.
On this Memorial Day, we remember that our
honored military dead are not just a group
of soldiers without faces, but those who
died defending our young country in every
war America has fought.
Politics do not matter on Memorial Day,
because we are not asked to explain an
unpopular war or criticize the leaders who
have prolonged it. This is a day for
memories. Memories of fathers, mothers,
sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, aunts
and uncles who made the ultimate sacrifice
so that we have the right to criticize our
own government.
We all know that freedom is far from free,
but we rarely remember the fallen men and
women not here to enjoy it. As a people,
we are very busy and fighting our daily
battles on many fronts. As the poet
says,"the world is too much with us." But,
we do set aside Memorial Day as an
opportunity to recognize and thank all the
veterans who gave their lives.
No lectures about your patriotic duties,
just take a moment to honor these heroes
in your own way. They gave that last
measure of devotion for you and they
deserve the same from a grateful nation.
Fly a flag, put a flower on a grave,
attend a parade or just say a silent
prayer.

Thank You many times over for this post.
Sorry I didn't see it sooner.
I have family and friends who have served
or are serving currently.
Others have served in the past wars.
You are right no matter what your belief
is in the end it is about our soldiers
they are our family also. I will fly a
flag until every last soldier is home.
I also have my family military flag up and
it will not come down either.
I notice how many people stopped flying
flags and not tying yellow ribbons around
trees either.
The soldiers need our support not just now
but when they come home, so many are
suffering from PTSD. It's heart breaking
to see what has happened to the people I
love so much.
They are not the same as they left.
I still and always will love them after
all they were doing a job to make our
world better.
Please everyone think about the soldiers
and their families.
Fly your flags not only on holidays but
everyday.
If you see a soldier, a vet say thank you,
a smile and nod trust me they will know
what you mean.
Many of them are feeling alone, the
families are having a hard time
understanding what has happened to them
also.
lonestarguy....thank you again from the
bottom of my heart....I'm a mom of a
soldier.
