Menstrual cycle changing
Posted: 06-23-08 16:27pm

I%u2019m 20 (21 in October-YAY!) and my menstrual cycle is driving me insane (I%u2019ve had a regular period since I was 12). I don%u2019t know what is going on. In the past few months I%u2019ve been getting horrific pms symptoms%u2026bad nausea, cramping, back ache, sore breasts, bloating, diarrhea that turns into constipation and then back to diarrhea the day I start, bad fatigue, emotional. The emotions I can deal with but the physical stuff is ruining my running%u2026I only ran 8/10 of a mile one day this week because I got sick while I was running. My flow also became a lot heavier with more intense cramping (it feels like someone is kicking me in the uterus with steel toe boots and they radiate to my lower back and thighs%u2014I take Aleve and use heat which helps a little)%u2026I used to only go through a light tampon once every 5-6 hours; now I%u2019m leaking through a regular in three hours (I know that%u2019s not a lot compared to other women, but it is for me). Another random thing...I'm on my period now and last night went to get a water bottle from my refrigerator and all of a sudden I got a sharp, shooting pain in my right ovary that went down through the inside of my right thigh; it lasted a total of about three minutes and wasn't at all like a menstrual cramp. Is it possible that my body is being cruel and just doing some sort of weird change/hormone overhaul on me%u2026.or is it something I should be more concerned about?

P.S. If anyone knows of anything that might help me feel better during PMS/my period I would greatly appreciate it!

Any time there is an extreme change in your menstration you should probably speak with a doctor. It could be nothing but it's probably a good idea to make sure.

While you're at the doctor's you should ask about birth control pills. Getting on birth control will help with pretty much all of your symptoms. I'm not sure what the shooting pain you felt was, but if it's pms related then birth control will help.

That's what is frustrating me...I know the pill would most likely help me a LOT, but I can't be on it because I get migraines, and I'm at risk for blood clots already. This is going to sound stupid, and I am going to go to the doctor, but I'm scared that she is just going to tell me to suck it up...I'm worried that she isn't going to take me seriously or is going to ignore me. I'm in the process of getting a new gyno...but in the meantime my pcp is all I have and she tends to not listen to her patients in general or wants to dominate and choose treatment options without listening to patient opinion.

I have migraines too - you can be on the mini pill. Or a gyno might be willing to give you a regular pill under careful supervision. Or you might try an IUD, the mirena IUD will lighten your period.
