i posted this long post about menstrual
regulation & it didn't post because i
wasn't signed in. lol. anyway, has
anyone ever heard of this procedure? i
had it done on monday. i've had the
medication abortion in the past and had a
very painful experience. when i found out
i was pregnant again, i seriously did not
want to go thru that again. to make a
long story short, i was in terrible pain
(cramps) for @ least 2 hours, threw up,
had heavy bleeding (passing the
pregnancy), and diahrrea. it was
horrible. so, i was looking online @ a
clinic recommended by planned parenthood
(there next appt was too far away). i
called to make an appt for the medication
abortion. but as a i looked online i saw
menstrual regulation. this is what it
is:
"The Aspiration Procedure is the most
natural way to end early pregnancy. Our
doctor uses a small handheld plastic
instrument that applies gentle pressure to
remove the early pregnancy tissue. It
doesn’t leave scars or cause damage to
the uterus in any way. It used to be
called Menstrual Extraction because the
procedure is like “bringing down your
period” The procedure is also called
Manual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA).
A speculum is inserted (like a pap smear).
A local anesthetic is applied. A thin tube
is inserted into the cervix. Gentle
suction is applied with a handheld
instrument for about 2 minutes. It is
like a 3-4 minute pap smear with 2-3
minutes of period-like cramps at the
end."
it was quick, little pain (i only felt
cramps, very similar to my normal period
for no more than 20 minutes). i didn't
have to go through the extensive
counseling sessions most clinics require
for the abortion pill. i simply went in,
had an ultra sound, went into the surgery
room (after being given 2 valiums), the
doctor came in shortly and gave me
twilight anesthesia, and did what he had
to do. i don't really remember anything
besides him inserting the thing they use
for pap smears. it was over in literally
2 minutes. he told me i can get up when i
feel strong enough to do so. i got up
right away. i was a little wobbly but
that wore off quickly. i experienced the
cramps my 20 minute drive home. when i
got home & took 2 800 mg motrin () the cramps went
away very quickly. i had very light
bleeding maybe one full day.
i would recommend this procedure any day
over medication abortion or surgical
abortion. it cost $200 something plus 50
for the twilight anesthesia. i'm just
wondering why every clinic isn't offering
this procedure. if you google, it's
discussed all over the world (especially
in countries where abortion is illegal).
i could only find one clinic online that
offered this procedure in my state. other
states like new york, california, texas
had many clinics. it's cheaper, quick,
and less surgery involved (no scrapping or
cutting). i didn't feel 1% bad for what i
did. my husband and i have been separated
for a while & i had protected sex with
someone (condom broke, morning after pill
didn't work. . . i took it literally 4
hours after sex,
) who i would not want to be my child's
father. and, there was no way i was going
to tell my husband. so, this worked for
me. we're getting back together so all is
well.
so, back to my initial question, anyone
ever had/heard of this procedure?
p.s. from what i've read, the procedure
was really popular after roe vs. wade.
women actually performed the procedure on
each other. it's also performed some
places before a pregnancy is confirmed.
and although i'm pro choice, a lot of
people don't consider it abortion since
most of the time it's performed before the
embryo separates from the uterine lining.
i think i got that last part right.
