Miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy Posted: 05-04-08 07:50am
I had a tubal when my last child was born,
9 years ago. Approximately two weeks ago,
I had sexual intercourse with my partner,
a couple of days ago, I thought I started
my period but it was extremely heavy and
the texture wasn't right. The next day I
passed two fairly large tissue clumps.
There was alot of bleeding. I
automatically assumed I had an ectopic
pregnancy, but I didn't get any of the
pain/cramps/fever....... my body has
disposed of all tissue and now I am
bleeding like a normal menstrual period.
Could it be possible to have had a real
pregnancy and I miscarried in lieu of an
ectopic one?

A heavy period is not proof that you had
an early miscarriage. Vaginal bleeding is
present in both an early miscarriage and
atopic pregnancy but first you need to
prove that you really were pregnant at
all. You need to have a positive pregnancy
test in both conditions: miscarry and
ectopic pregnancy.
A home (urine) pregnancy test may not be
relevant in case of ectopic pregnancy so a
blood pregnancy test should be requested.
