Mom going through menopause Posted: 08-26-08 13:43pm
My mom is 46 years old and has always been
the most supportive and giving mom i have
ever known. I am 20 years old and she is
my best friend. We just recently moved out
of state, My Mom, Dad, and 18 year old and
12 year old brothers. My brother is very
mature for his age and eventually wants to
move back to San Francisco to be closer to
his girlfriend and go to school. My mom is
heaping guilt on him and the whole family.
She constantly tells us that she has
failed us by moving out of state, She
cries a lot and makes my dad feel awful
about having to travel for work. How can
we learn to deal with these things? I
don't want her to push everyone away! I
really need advice for her and my family!

Difficult Time Posted: 08-27-08 20:44pm
Hi JD,
Yes, menopause is a very difficult time
for women. It took me many years to make
the transition. I had so many symptoms
and the very worst was the anxiety and
mood swings.
The best thing you can do for your Mom is
to be supportive and try to understand
what she's going through. Sometimes it
feels like a stranger has taken over your
body and mind.
I tried hormone replacement and many
supplements but what it came down to is
patience and letting nature take it
course. When you feel bad emotionally and
physically it is very difficult to deal
with situations especially with family.
Go easy on her and don't expect as much.
She needs to take care of herself right
now.
Hope this helps,
DianaJJ

Mom Going through Menopause Posted: 08-28-08 00:06am
I can relate. I was extremely emotional
when I started going through menopause.
Every little thing becomes exaggerated and
it doesn't help when you start forgetting
things. I've used everything! The
emotional aspect will eventually go away
and things will return to normal but it
does take some time. Your mom should
really go get her hormone levels checked
and start looking into perimenopause or
menopause information. Maybe you could
send her something anonymously? LOL
