A couple of days ago i was out eating with
a friend and ashe asked to have a sip of
my drink, assuring me she wasn't sick. An
hour later, she decided to mention that
she thinks her mono is coming back. She
had it years ago, and says that it
periodically becomes active again and that
she thinks this is one of those times,
because she has been tired and has a head
ache for several days. I really wish she
had shared this with me BEFORE we drank
from the same straw. I don't know much of
anything about mono. What's the likelihood
i have it now, and how can I find out
before symptoms appear?
Tiredness and headache are such common
symptoms that they rarely indicate a mono
outbreak.
Mono outbreaks are also rare (in 6% of
infected people). You can’t find out if
you are infected with mono before you feel
the symptoms. You may want to consult your
primary health provider if you get a
fever, swollen lymph nodes, sore throat,
muscle weakness, etc. Even if you get
infected there is nothing to be worry
about because mono is an easy disease. It
usually passes spontaneously.
