Mother neglecting puppy?

My brother's dog just had 3 cute little
puppies. She 2 boys and a girl. she
seems to not like the girl. She always
hiding her places we cant find her in. my
mom said that when she went to check on
her she seem the 2 boys and the baby girl
was no where to be found. She was nursing
the other 2 boys but not the girl. Why is
she doing this? Is this a sign of
neglect? the pups are only 4 days old.
I'm really scared for the puppy and wish I
could take her away because my first
thought was neglect. But i know she needs
to stay with her motehr for aleast 6-8
weeks. I just don't want her to die.
What should I do about this?

he mother may sense she is not well Stay
with the mama and the babies as often as
you can and make sure she is nursing. If
this continues, there is puppy formula
that you can buy and feed her, but yes she
really needs her mother's milk. I think
if you are with the baby girl, the mother
will let her nurse. I know this is a
hassle, but maybe the mother will accept
her in time. Obviously, the mother is
moving her, she is too young to go off on
her own. That is sad, but everyday that
she gets the mother's milk is another day
we do not have to worry. After 3-4 weeks,
she should make it on the puppy formula if
the mother still is not accepting her.

its hard for me to be there for her
because I stay 1 hour away. The only
person there to care for her is my mother.
I will call her asap tmw morning and let
her know what's going on and to keep a
close eye on her. I just pray that she
lives and that her mother will accept. If
not I will call the vet and ask them what
I should do to be on the safe side

I am sorry - I hope the mother will accept
her and stop carrying her off. If she
can nurse at least another week, maybe she
will be okay. It is very sad, we have
been in the same situation with kittens.
Sometimes the mother will just leave the
whole litter. It is very sad because we
can't keep them alive. Good Luck!

my mother said yesterday it's like she
goes take one and feed it and go put it
away then does the same with the others so
on. I would hope that's the case and
she's just being protective. My mom is
going to check on her and she'll call me
back.

Hopefully, they are all getting enough
nourishment to survive until they are a
little older.

How sad...eeyore46 is completely
right...if there was something wrong with
the babe then she probably sensed it and
with her motherly instincs wanted to
provide for the babes that were most
likely to survive. Unfortunately the babe
is definately dead by now...no ones fault,
it's just nature. I hope that she is
taking care of the other two, if
not.....y'all might want to consider
purchasing some formula and droppers to
feed them. I hate to preach....but the
mother really needs to be spayed. It
breaks my heart that there are so many
unwanted and stray dogs because some
people are so ignorant to
spaying/neutering their pets. Save a life
by fixing your pets! I hope the other
babes are ok and that y'all can find homes
for them!

I hope you're not calling my igonorant. I
have a dog and no she is not spayed but I
make sure that I watch her when she is in
heat. I don't just let her run around.
She's a house dog. The dog I am talking
about yeh she needs to be spayed but it's
not my responsibility, she's my brothers.
Things happen but I'll be sure that those
puppies find a good home even if we have
to put them up for adoption. My fiance
and I are considering taking one of them
if all goes well.
btw my mother called and told me she is
taking care of all 3 now. She is some how
hiding them and when it's time to feed she
takes them and feeds them. Very weird but
maybe she's being protective because there
are other stray dogs in the neighborhood.
With that said that's how she got
pregnant!

There are many benefits to spaying.
"In Females, spaying decreases the
incidence of breast cancer (the rate goes
down to almost zero if the spaying is done
before the first heat cycle!). It
eliminates the chance of developing a
serious and potentially fatal infection of
the uterus experienced by many mature
unspayed animals (pyometra). Spay surgery
also eliminates the heat cycle and
associated mood swings and undesirable
behaviors, messy spotting (in dogs) and
the attraction of all available males to
your yard."

When we breed English setters there was
always one like that in a litter. I did
the bottle feeding thing with two of them,
but after that the ones she didnt care for
we had put to sleep because there was
somthing wrong witht them. Animlas always
know.
The two I did bottle feed, lived. They are
mentaly retarded, Rescue attacks and walks
in circles all the time. And the male they
had to put to sleep. Its sad but thats
just how it gose somtimes.
Also It may just be you guys are touching
the pups to much...

No No No No!!!! I am not calling You
ignorant! I'm just saying that it is very
frusturating that there are so many people
who choose to leave their pets unaltered
and then the result is an overpopulation
of dogs and cats, which end up being
abandoned, hit by cars, put to sleep, or
used as bait during dog fight training. I
have volentered at a local animal rescue
group for almost 5 years, so I see the
pain and sorrow that these poor animals go
through. I'm not suggesting that you are
ignorant, because you said that you keep
your dog inside, I am speaking in regards
to people that allow their unaltered dogs
to roam around and procreate. I can
understand having an inside dog
unaltered......both of mine are insides
but whe went ahead and "fixed" them
because it rules out any future
reproductive related cancers ect. Once
again I hope that you realize that I was
not criticizing you.....It was a remark
intended to implicate irresponsible pet
owners!

I am so happy to hear all three are still
alive. She knew what she was doing all
along. lol How happy that must make you
all. If we did not have puppies, what
would we do. My daughter just bought a
Carine Terrier - of course - her name is
Toto. I was so afraid the little female
had died. Thank you for responding.
Hopefully, the three of them will live.
What kind are they?

YAY! I'm so excited! My fiance wants the
boy and I want the girl...if we get the
boy we'll have to get them both fixed
because I have a girl dog already. The
mom is a pitbull and the dad is i have no
clue! The 2 boys have spots from the dad
while the girl took moms color. Eventully
I plan on getting my dog i have now fixed
