mri show previous surgery ? Posted: 06-28-08 21:09pm
hi everyone....i had a laminotomy
performed 2 weeks ago for sciatica caused
by a ruptured disc....my question is,if i
go to a different dr. 5 weeks after the
surgery and he has me go have another mri
performed will he be able to tell that i
have had back surgery?.......dr. that
performed the laminotomy said that he went
in and drilled a small hole in the lamina
and then took out most of the ruptured
disk and pushed what he could back into
place......the reason i am asking is
because my employer is sending me to a dr.
and if it is known that i had the surgery
then i will be put on disability due to my
job duties.....any info will be greatly
appreciated.....thank you-Kevin

Yes i think they would be able to tell,
the vertebra has had a small piece of bone
removed i think this is called a
laminectomy defect, it does not mean
anything is wrong, its just the change in
the vertebra after the operation, and they
would probably list it in the findings.

Hello Kmyer,
Welcome to this forum.
I agree with Rollar's thoughts on this
matter. Yes, new MRIs would show the
laminotomy performed.
HOWEVER, don't let that dissuade you from
going to another doctor to get his/her
thoughts.
I wish you the best, and hope your
recovery goes well.
