My friend is pregnant, has everything but the $$$ Posted: 07-25-08 11:29am
A dear friend of mine (1 yr married, both
employed,very loving relationship,will
make fantastic parents)is now 5wks
pregnant. It seems they have all the proper
accoutrements for their new baby,excepting
money.She has already contacted Medicaid
and it seems they make "too much" to
qualify,when in actuality,they make just
enough to get by.She is becoming
increasingly stressed about this
situation, which concerns me to no end.I
need to find any and all solutions that
could possibly be available to
them.Thay've already looked into
Medicaid,and Maternity Advantage,neither
seems to be an option.Any advice would be
greatly appreciated.

There are some doctors and hospitals that
will make payment arrangements.

I am kinda in the same boat. We will
barely make it by, but we will. The fact
that she is not that far along gives them
extra time to prepare.
1. Save money. Every Penny that you
can...put it away for when the baby
comes.
She will be home from work with the baby
and this will put extra financial strain
on her husband.
2. Pay off as much debt as you can before
the baby comes. That way they can focus on
just living expenses instead of old
hospital bills and credit cards.
3. Work overtime if you can...now this may
be too stressful on her but its a good way
to earn extra money that could be used for
baby stuff, debt, or savings
Oh and tell them to not be afraid to ask
for help. Talk to family and friends that
have had kids and see if they have things
that they dont need anymore like swings
and bassinetts and small baby toys. We
have gotten our crib, changing station,
bathtub, and swing this way. The same goes
for baby clothes. The baby will grow so
fast that you can use used clothing and
spend your money on diapers and formula.
These are steps that my hubby and I have
taken. Its been hard and I know we arent
as prepared as I would like, but this plan
has really helped us.
