my puppy is sick

My new puppy, tank is very sick and in the
hospital. I feel so bad for him. they
thought he had mange so i have been
treating that for about a week now and he
is always itching and biting himself. last
night and today he bite his tail and leg
so bad hge ripped out all the hair and
today he had an allergic reaction to
somethin while i was at work. My boyfriend
called me and said his face was swollen.
When I got there to see him, he could not
even opne his eyes! we had to take him an
hour away to go to an emergency clinic and
the swelling went down, but now he is just
one big rash. they had to shave his back
lags and butt and his front paws. they
wanted to keep him overnight on an IV and
monitor him. I was surprised it was only
$600 though, that was a relief. I didnt
really have the extra money but it is
worth it. i just want to cry right now
has anything like this happened to anyone
where they animal bit and itched
themselves so bad they bled and had
infections? if so, what ended up being
wrong with them?

Very sorry to hear that. He may need to
get on a good steroid to knock out this
reaction that he's having. Steroids are
the only things that seem to make a major
difference with Boudreaux's allergies. You
deffinately need to find the root of the
issue, though because long-term use of
steroids is not advisable, but a few
weeks-month, or every so often when
needed, can be very beneficial to your
dog. Have you tried putting him on an all
natural diet? This helped us tremendously,
although there is still some enviromental
allergy affecting our Boudreaux, which we
are hoping to figure out once the
dermo-specialist runs tests on him. Pet
Insurace is great....we use Embrace.

Right now we pay $20.00 for Boudreaux and
$30.00 for Daisy, shes much older so that
was the reason for the price difference.
You can customize your plans to suit your
dog's needs with many different options
for detuctibles, copays, and coverage. I
think we'r going to do a little adjusting
with our plan, to cover more on
prescriptions.

Awe poor guy!!! We tried the satelite on
Boudreaux for a day but he kept
crying.....Did you ask the vet about
steroids? No, not all vets accept
insurance. Our vet actually recomended us
to Embrace, it is the only company he
accepts, of course I live in a semi-small
town.

Looking closer at the pics I can see
exactly where he chews......on the
rump...same exact with Boudreaux! I'm
surprised your vet didn't go ahead with a
cortisone shot, just to relieve his pain!
The satelite will keep him from chewing,
but what are y'all doing to help with the
itching? A prescription spray at least? He
probably needs some meds to provide some
relief. You can give him 25mg of Benedryl
per 25 lbs...so if he weighs 10 lbs you
would need to get childs formula and only
give him 10 mg.

yeah we are giving him benadryl and he is
on some other prescription meds to try and
treat mange (they all think he has it but
no where can find it on him) they have not
done an allergy test yet, which i am going
to ask for when i call the vets today to
set up an appt. she has not seen him since
he went into the emergency room. His rump
is where he chews himself. he is
surprisingly doing well with the
satellite, it only makes him mad that he
cannot bite that spot. I do not have a
prescription spray for theitching and they
did give him one steriod shot while he was
in the hospital i think.
I am from a very small town. so maybe she
will accept embrace, i am going to ask
when i take tank in.

oh and I was wondering if it was normal
that since we got him back, he bites
everything now! its like since he cannot
bite his rear end, he is going to chew on
everything else! he did not do this before
he went in, is it the satelitte?

With the satelitte Boudreaux tried to bite
the bottoms of his paws, so yeah I guess
he just feels the need to relieve himself
in some way. The steroid shot should start
to work soon, it usually kicked in for
Boudreaux in under 24 hrs. The
prescription spray we were given is called
Genta Spray, it is a topcial steroid that
is safe to use along with other meds.

they actually didnt give him any steriod,
i found out when i took him to my local
vet. she for some reason was very relieved
that they didnt. i don t know why she
didnt want him to have them. she gave me
an antibiotic spray to pu ton his rear end
since the cream is hard to do and all he
does is whine. the spray i got is called
betagen. and she gave me a shampoo called
mycodex, it is a tar sulfur shampoo for
treating some skin disorders.
thanks, Dyan i still think he is adorable
even with his satellite on
