Hello Ctenntoto,
First, it is most important that you wait
for your doctor's thoughts. He/she knows
you best, and can best interpret what I
assume to be the MRI report. None of us
on this forum can do that. AND, I would
highly recommend that you get a second
opinion from the very best spinal surgeon
in your area.
Do remember that surgery is your last
option. You have a wise doctor who wants
to try an epidural injection first. The
people I had talked with said that
epidurals did not work for them, so I
didn't even want to bother. Thank
goodness my pain mainagement doctor
convinced me to give it a try. They have
helped. I can function MUCH better than I
could before the injection that contained
the corticosteroid Kenalog. I have had
three epidurals, the first was on April 27
"07, the last this past April.
Cteentoto, make sure your doctor uses a
fliuoroscope to help him/her guide the
needle to the exact place that the
medication needs to be to reduce your
inflammation.
I would suggest that you ask your doctor
about your DDD.
I wish you the best. Let us know how
things go for you.

Hello Ctenntoto,
A question if I may - What does "results
of fce" mean? What does "fce" stand for?
Also, when are you scheduled for your
epidural? Do make sure you know what will
be injected into your spine BEFORE the
injection. AND if by chance your doctor
does not plan to use a fluoroscope for
your epidural injection by all means seek
out a spine specialist that does.
And what is an "myelogram"?
Take care.

(fce) functional capacity evalution, this
is where they evalute what u can do or
not,
light duty or regular job duties. mine was
sit down only don't lift any thing from
floor and 10lbs from waist and nomore than
5 lbs over head.you carry a crate with
weights in it,walk on thread mill
reach, push, pull its a very hard work out
when you have a back injury,it last 4
hours and i was crawling back in my
door.it is done by a trained therpist and
it is used for disabilty also. thinking
that is where they are going with me.
therpist told me he didn't give me the all
he could because of my back injury. thank
god!!!
myleogram is where they put die in your
back and they can view your
spine,disc,nerves in a 3d dimensional and
look all arround the injury.
epidural start thursday the 19th if they
can it scheduled for that day (hope they
can) god bless

Hello Ctenntoto,
Thanks much for the explanations.
May I ask why you had the FCE? I just had
never heard of anyone having an FCE
before.
Another question if I may - Why did you
have a myelogram rather than an MRI which
shows both bones and soft tissues? From
my understanding a myelogram is normally
only used when you have a metal plate or
screws in your body and cannot have an MRI
for that reason.
I'll be thinking of you on Thursday and
praying the epidural works for you.
Please make sure your doctor will be using
a fluoroscope. You state "epidural start
thursday". Does that mean you will be
having more than one?
Take care.

doing good he just wanted to see what was
going on, now he knows i guess.he ordered
fce to see what i could do but he said sit

surgery or plates or anything good doc i
guess they look all they can see what is
going on with mylegram.(don't regret it at
all learned a alot)
