I am from the philippines. my 3 yr old
nephew was diagnosed with myocarditis last
April 25. He was in ICU for three days
and now discharged from the hospital.
Befor discharging, his ECG was normal. Is
it recurring? Will it damage his heart?
Myocarditis is a serious condition that
can be life threatening. Prognosis depends
from the etiology and proper treatment.
Myocarditis can be caused by infections
(viral or bacterial), autoimmune
disorders, rheumatic fiver etc.
Mild infective myocarditis cases have good
prognosis but severe cases can cause
permanent damage.
Rheumatic fiver is very common for
children and has ability to reoccur if
Streptococcus-infections are not prevented
in the future. First attack usually
doesn't cause any damage but further
attacks will cause permanent damage.
In autoimmune disorders myocarditis is
chronic and has bad prognosis.
ECG can be normal even during the
"attack".
Did doctors discover what caused your
nephew's myocarditis?
