Are you referring to transcutaneous
electrical nerve stimulation?
I did try it, because i have it for my
upper back (surprizingly same side)
problem.
It is a spasmatic muscle in between the
shoulder blade which has been developing
even since teenage years. I just ignored
it for most part, now it is daily pain,
but using TENS usually helps. Also
capsaicin liquid roll on application
appears to help.
Other then that, posture, making sure that
the muscle are not strained too much, is
the only thing that helps. Working a job
such as standing all day or even sitting
and using computer (mouse etc) also might
trigger it. It might be stress related as
well, so good
bed rest, plenty of sleep helps.
And yes, I have been told by the doctor
and seen online that it is common to
experience neck, and upper back pain along
with TMD.
Mine started with back/neck pain first. I
remember even as young as 14, caring a
backpack full of books home by walking
10-20 minutes and then requiring just lay
in bed for at least couple hours so that
the pain would go away.
I suppose it was not a good idea to ignore
the pain.

the body's way of telling you somthing is
wrong.
