some where between January and May 2007- I
had unprotected sex with my ex girlfriend.
( this is the intercourse that im worried
about)
05th July 2007- I had the last unprotected
sexual intercourse with the girl who I
went out with at that time.( she tested
negative in february 2008)
Aug 15th - got sick with a loose motion
which lasted about a week..
I also had a severe slip disc which I got
treated to during this piriod of time..
September 2007 - I started taking herbal
medicine for my back pain for about three
weeks. ( took herbal tablets and liquids
as well as oils and balms)
Soon after starting this I found two
glands near my groing also I got white
spots in my tongue and lost about 10kgs.
October 31 (117 days after my last sexual
exposure)I took a hiv antibody test which
came out as non reactive also tested for
all the stds and was cleared.
10 months on I still have the galnds but I
have gained 6 kgs within about 6 months.
tongue still remains white at time and
recently it has become bad. also I tend to
loose a lot of body hair all over my body.
( i recently moved out of the country this
may some times be for change of weather
and water)
have some kind of a pressure buildi8ng up
in my left ear.
my question is the reliabilty of the hiv
test I took... Can the herbal medicine I
took for my back pain make hiv antibodies
undetectable??? Can these types of
medicines destroy hiv antibodies in blood
and make it impossible to detect...
Can I put this whole episode behind me and
move on???
This may sound as a funny question but
please I need an answer as im totally
freaked out.

wow now that is a story. well to tell the
truth i got tested 109 days after my last
possible exposure but i was still told to
come in for a 6 month test. The current
Elisa test's being used are approximately
98% accurate for detecting antibodies
within the first 3 months. I have no heard
of any herbal medications being able to
destroy HIV so my best advise would be get
tested at the 6 month point. About 180
days after your last possible exposure,
this will confirm whether or not you have
HIV.

Thanks for all your help. Keep up the
good work. It is hard work to answer
questions and even harder when our
Moderator Homerx is ill. You make it
easier my friend. Blessings...
Oh It's my pleasure Mson
I know it can't be easy living with
HIV/AIDS
I still have a month to go myself to
confirm my own status and helping others
understand more about this virus is the
least I can do.
Thanks for the reply but think you didnt
understand my question..
i got tested after 117 days of my last
unprotected sex episode...( Octobet 31
2007) but the girl concerned got a
negative result in february 2008. so im
not worried about this.
what im worried about is an unprotected
intercourse with my ex which took place
more than 6 months before I got tested...
im worried that the herbal medicine i took
must have affected my results.. If you say
herbal medicine cant alter the test result
then i should be fine... is that what you
saying???
what about the swollen nodes and the
patchy tongue??
since the test was done after six months
of the event which im concerned about, can
i clear my mind about hiv???
pls reply.. thanks

ok sorry about misunderstanding your
question earlier. So what you saying is
you got tested 6 months after your last
possible expose but your worried your test
results were affected because of the
herbal medication you were taking. Well as
far as I know nothing short of HIV
medication itself would affect an HIV
test. I'm not sure about herbal medication
because to affect the HIV test it would
have to kill the virus itself which as far
as I know can only be done with specific
HIV medication. Swollen nodes and oral
thrush are signs of contracting HIV but
just because you have those doesn't mean
you have the virus. To clear your mind I
would suggest getting retested! Also there
are many other STD'S out there so you
should get tested for those as well.
