I've recently discovered niacin, and the
good things it can do. I have just tried
the normal "full flush" kind, at 100mg so
far.
I have suffered with what I've always
thought was acne since age 15. I'm now 26
and I still have pimples, and I'm just
tired of it. I have tried every product,
and it does nothing for me. I am
convinced that I am missing a vital
vitamin, or something in my body that I
need to get rid of these pimples that keep
showing up in the same areas. I have
tried everything, and by everything I mean
diet, soaps vs. no soap, hot showers, cold
showers, sunlight, low sunlight, etc.
Pretty much everything you can think of.
I am hoping that Niacin will be the key
that I need to unlock something in my
body. I have light skin (I'm Irish) and I
sometimes have what seems to be chronic
dry skin in areas of my body. Again, I
have tried every lotion, and oil known to
man but 30 mins after a shower my skin
starts to flake again.
My main question is, up to how much Niacin
should I take for non cholesterol
purposes? I hear of people taking as much
as 1000-2000mg a day. I have read that
Niacin is safe, with the exception of the
time release kind which I do not have due
to it being bad for your liver. I assume
too much of anything is not good, even
water, so I want to make sure I don't harm
my liver or whatever it may affect.
Also, Niacin is suppost to stimulate blood
flow. I have had poor blood circulation
all my life as well (maybe the two are
linked?). I have also suffered from very
sharp pains in my sides that just turn on
randomly. Sometimes exersise, causes the
pain or it just happens while I am sitting
or just standing. Horrible intense pain,
I would compare to a broken rib. I have
had blood tests and x-rays but nothing has
explained why my sides hurt so badly,
except one thing. Slapping the muscles
seems to ease the pain, and make it stop.
My doctor said it is probably something
related to blood circulation. I have had
these pains since I was 17.
I am hoping that Niacin will hit two birds
with one stone. I would appriciate your
opinions on both issues, and also how much
Niacin I should start out on (currently
100mg a day which isn't much compared to
most people) and the maximum you think
would be healthy for a fit 26 year old
male, with a very strict diet of low sugar
and mostly protein and whole grains.
