When I was first pregnant it took a good while before they could hear a heartbeat. I am now 31 weeks along. And the last time I went to the docs for an OB they had problems finding it. I asked them about this and they said many things could cause it. In my case the baby was lying far back in the uterus. They told me that sometimes fetal movement can cause the heartbeat to not be audible especially at a young gestation. And that also if you are overweight that can prevent hearing the heartbeat as well.
