No period for 2yrs Posted: 07-04-08 14:27pm
I've been on the depo shot for 3 years
now, and I haven't had a menstrual cycle
for about 2 years. I was wondering if it
is possible to get pregnant if you do not
menstruate. I know that when you have your
period it's because an egg is released and
tissue builds up in the uterus to cushion
it or w/e... Since I don't menstruate does
this mean that my ovaries aren't releasing
eggs?
Yes, your conclusion is correct. Lack of
periods (amenorrhea) means that your
ovaries aren't releasing eggs (there are
no ovulations). That is the mechanism that
depo-shot uses to prevent pregnancy.

That is what the shot is supposed to do.
It takes away your menstral period so you
do not have a cycle and should not get
pregnant. Some women have the complete
other side and consistantly bleed. All
women react differently but it sounds like
it's working for you the way it was meant
to. If you decide to have a baby you'll
want to be off the shot for around a year
that's usually what they say to get
pregnant after the shot. But it can take
that long for anyone to get pregnant.
