Ortho Lo after Nuvaring & IUD Posted: 07-04-08 09:16am
So I just wanted to know if I am crazy or
not...I will make this as brief as
possible.
Was on Ortho Lo from age 16 to 19. No
problems, maybe a 5 pound weight gain.
Got married, and the bright idea to get
Mirena IUD. HORRIBLE. Threw up from pain
of insertion, cramps so bad I almost went
to hospital the entire time I had it. Had
it removed about 8 months later. Have been
on Nuvaring from then until to present.
Ever since I got married, COMPLETE LOSS OF
SEX DRIVE. Also with Nuvaring, I gained an
additional 6 pounds (added on the the 5
from the pill). Breaking out also. Doctor
has switched me back to Ortho Lo now.
So I guess I am just looking for feedback
as to has anyone else lost sex drive with
Nuvaring or IUD and then switched back to
the pill? Will it come back??? I am scared
it's just that I was a horny teenager
before and now that I have been married
two years (and we've been sexually active
for 5) that I am just bored. I am only 21
and we always had amazing sex and now I
could care less to do it and it's really
causing a rift in my relationship. I know
the situation is rather specific, but
maybe there's someone out there with a
similar experience?

There are some data that loss of sex drive
could be a side effect from the hormonal
contraception. But in your case loss of
sex drive can be also due to the
difficulties you had with Mirena IUD. You
obviously had a very traumatic experience
with Mirena IUD and that might decreased
your sex drive.
Only thing you can do now is to wait to
see what will happen now when you got back
on pills.
