Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo timing & protection
Posted: 03-11-08 02:09am

I started taking Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo for birth control on Thursday night (technically Friday morning at 12am) and set a reminder on my cell phone for 12am every day, since the instructions say to take it at the same time every day.
I just realized that on Sunday the time reset to "spring forward" for daylight savings! Is an hour difference after taking a couple of pills going to reset the time period before I'm protected?

Also, can I know for sure when I will be protected if the hour difference isn't an issue? I took the first pill 8 days after the first day of my period. Does this mean I will have a 7 day space before I am protected?

Thanks!

You are okay as far as daylight savings time goes!

YES, you need to wait 7 full days to be fully protected, since you did not start ON YOUR PERIOD.

This is only for the first pack though.

Yes, it will be 7 full days before you are protected (although some doctors recommend two weeks just in case). Daylights savings is not a problem. An ortho tricyclen pill is only technically considered "late" after 6 hours.
