Q: Otrivin use while pregnant

Hi all,

I'm 6 weeks pregnant today.

Problem -- I've been addicted to Otrivin (nasal spray) for years. Since learning I was pregnant two weeks ago, I've stopped using it during the day entirely, however at night, once I lie down, my sinuses get so clogged up I can't breathe at all and thus I can't sleep.

I've been using the tiniest bit in one nostril just to allow a breathing space, but I want to stop that, too -- I've done all the research and I know that not enough studies have been done to rule out risk to the fetus.

Please help. I've tried saline sprays, and they do absolutely nothing. Is there anything else that can help me through thiss transition?

Otrivin use while pregnant
Hi there
Don't know if I can offer any solutions however just wanted to tell you I've been using Otrivin for over 10 years (unfortunately) every day. I am 45 years old and had a baby at 43......he is perfect! Smile But as you say, who knows the ramifications of use but maybe try not to worry too much about it....by all means try to ween off it but a positive attitude while pregnant goes a long way. Best of luck.

Same Problem here
I'm a 24 weeks pregnant and I have the same problem specially at night, I've been using Otrivin/Afrin for a long time.
After I knew i'm pregnant I tried to use saline but as u said it's useless..
Now I'm using Otrivin for kids and it works..
All the best..
