For a few months now I have had several
symptoms that I have only recently begun
to research and been led to PD as a
possible diagnosis.
First off, my medical history includes a
bout with the mumps when I was 5 years
old, during which I had mengio
encephalitis and was hospitalized for over
two weeks due to the dangerous swelling of
the brain, which had doctors baffled at
the time.
Fast forward to the present, and I have
had a persistent hand tremor in my left
(dominant) hand for several months. I
don't notice it during the typical busy
work day, but when I am sitting still at
any time of day, or relaxing in my easy
chair at night, there is a constant tremor
in my left thumb at about 4 beats per
second. It is slight, but noticeable.
Sometimes I notice a slight rhythmic
tremor in the left index finger as well.
When I wake up during the night or the
next morning, there is no tremor, until I
am awake for several minutes. I guess you
would call this a resting tremor.
Also in recent months I have noticed a
tendency to have a drop or so of urine
that I will randomly find wetting my
underwear. I do seem to have the urge to
go more often than I used to, and don't
normally have a full bladder when I do go.
One more thing is that I have over the
same time period been struggling with dry
scalp, itchy skin, and face, neck and
torso redness of the skin. Sometimes my
face seems dry and scaly, and other times
my nose is a bit oily and I've had a few
pimples like when I was a teenager!
My handwriting has always been small, but
of late could be a little less legible.
My wife says there is nothing wrong with
my speech, yet I have noticed people
asking me over the phone to repeat
something I have said with some
regularity. I usually try to repeat my
misunderstood words a little louder,
slower and more carefully enunciated and
everything is fine.
I can't seem to get a neurologist
appointment until late June, so I am
throwing this out here to see if someone
has a common experience with any of this,
or has an informed opinion.
Beside tremor, do you have some other
symptoms typical for Parkinson disease
like slow movements and muscle rigidity?
Do you take some medicines?
Resting tremor can be due to Parkinson
disease but it can be also due to some
medicines, other extra-pyramid disorders
similar to Parkinson disease or some type
of essential tremor.
Urinary incontinention and often urge for
peeing could be found in the later
stadiums of Parkinson disease but urinary
infection or some prostate disorder is
more possible option. Do you go peeing
very often during the night? Do you have
burning sensations whole peeing?
Slow writing and small handwriting can be
found in Parkinson disease but later.
Monotonous speech can be found in
Parkinson disease.
