I know there was already a post about
Errin, but I had a question about it as
well. My doctor recently switched me from
Yasmin to Errin, and didn't explain much
about it. When I picked my prescription
up, the pharmacy tech asked if I would
like the pharmacist to go over the pills
with me. Since I'd never taken this brand
before, I said yes. The pharmacist came
over and basically said, "Take them like
you've taken them before." So I took them
like Yasmin. I didn't take the last week
of pills, since with Yasmin, those are the
placebos. I was supposed to get my period
Tuesday the 29th, and have still not
gotten it. I took two pregnancy tests,
and both came out negative. Are you even
supposed to get a period on this pill?
And has anyone else had a similar
experience? I'm going to take another
test on Tuesday, and probably call my
doctor, but right now I need some kind of
feedback to put my mind at ease.
The thing that really gets me is that
neither my doctor nor the pharmacist told
me that Errin isn't as effective as
Yasmin, and neither told me about the last
week of pills. I understand that they
come with a pamphlet, but I am absolutely
shocked that the pharmacist told me to
"Take them like you've taken them before."
Maybe he didn't know I'd been on Yasmin,
but I would assume that shows up in their
system.
So if someone can answer some questions
for me, that'd be much appreciated.
Errin and Yasmin are completely different
types of birth control pills.
Yasmin contains 21 active pills and 7 (the
last one) inactive. You may skip the last
7 pills because they are inactive. Taking
the inactive pills is the same as if you
make 7 days pause after the 21st day of
the cycle.
Errin doesn't contain inactive pills. All
pills in the pack are active and must be
taken every day without pause between
packs. Errin can cause lack of the period
in 50% of the cases.
When the pharmacist told you "as the same
as Yasmin" he probably meet that you had
taken all 28 pills in Yasmin's pack
without skipping the last 7 inactive and
making 7 days pause after the 21-st pill.
All this means that by making 7 days pause
while on Errin you put yourself under risk
to get pregnant. You should use additional
contraceptive method and make another
pregnancy test 15 days after the last
unprotected sexual intercourse.
