period or miscarriage?
Posted: 06-11-08 15:36pm

Hi all,

What an emotional day. Here is the background to my question. My period was due 1 week ago, as it was our first month trying to get pregnant I suspected I was as soon as it didnt arrive. I did 2 home pregnancy tests which both came up as positive. I went to the doctor 4 days later and the urine test came back negative, I then had a blood test today and it was negative again. Last night I started spotting and now today I have what is like a period but with large clots and cramping (the cramping is normal for my first day of period)

I am confused, is this my period or am I miscarrying, and if it is my period why would I have two positive home pregnancy tests. According to my doctor I am not pregnant so it must be a period, so do I leave it at that?? confused and emotional. Any advice is appreciated.

It's possible you had something called a blighted ovum. That's when a fertilized egg implants in your uterus but does not develop into a baby. A lot of blighted ovums pass naturally without the mother ever knowing she was pregnant. If you hadn't tested, you probably would never have known you were pregnant. It's commonly believed that many women have miscarriages without ever knowing.

I'm sorry for your loss. You did nothing wrong, and there was nothing you could have done to prevent this. You have excellent chances of conceiving again. Good luck!

Yes, Aya is correct that is why they recommend to test after your missed period for an accurate result. What happens is that the hpt nowadays are so sensitive to detect the hcg that it can give false positives if testing before your missing period.

Good luck ttc! Soon enough you will see that big positive

Kinda like piano lessons..........at first you kinda play the piece , then it gets into your head and it feels right.....then you master it and can play it without even looking at the sheet music. Where is this leading............so this was a practice shot. It was not the time......You are young and healthy. I feel it in my heart you will become pregnant and have the wonderful baby you are so hoping for. Quit trying so hard and stressing it. Fairy Dust coming your way tajp76************* and HUGS!
