Pica symptoms ? Posted: 04-20-08 16:20pm
I'm starting to wonder if I have pica, I'm
going to ask my doc about it when I go in
on Tuesday because I'm starting to get a
little worried. In addition to wanting to
eat tons of food that aren't exactly safe
in large quantities during pregnancy, I
want to eat weird caca. Like ice. I crave
crushed ice. Plain or in slurpees or the
small cylinders you get from the gas
station. Plus I wanted to eat dirt when I
was planting my flowers the other day. I
didn't do it cuz that's just weird but I
seriously wanted to eat the dirt. And corn
starch. I don't even think that stuff has
any nutritional value. It's odd. And if it
is pica, what exactly does that mean? I've
read about it a little bit (mostly just
read that if you want to eat weird things
tell your doc because you might have it)
but what exactly is it? Anyone know?

I used to crave ice chips so bad closer to
the end of my pregnancy,I used to almost
hope to go into labour just so that I
could have the ice chips from the ice
machine.I would go to the store and buy
slurpies and then get my boyfriend to suck
all the flavour out of it then I would
just eat the ice.It was the weirdest thing
for me.
I looked at that website and it said it
could have something to do with low iron
levels and I was anemic so that could have
been the expanation with me.
Hopefully your doctor can tell you more
and get it all figured out for you.
Good Luck!

I am taking a prenatal. Stuart's or
something. Maybe it is an iron thing.
I've been anemic my whole life so that
could be it, although my first pregnancy I
wasn't anemic during pregnancy.
Guess that doesn't mean that it couldn't
happen this time.
