head pains on back of head

ok so im 17 years old. for the past 6
weeks i have been having head pains and
headaches that iv never had before and
they come everyday. before then i never
had headaches unless i was sick or from
natural headache causes. ill start with my
head pains and weird feelings
the head pains are in the top back left
and sometimes top back right parts of my
head sometimes they will be in the lower
back part of my head above the neck as
well. I get this weird twitching feeling
in my right temple and sometimes get the
same feeling in another part of my head. I
have noticed that i have a tiny tiny sore
bump on the back left of my head that is
sore to touch and moves with the skin when
i touch it like a cyst.
The headaches come on out of no where and
last about 1 minute each time with the
pain being moderate to sever and starts at
the back and spreads to the front on one
side (mostly left side sometimes right).
sometimes i will get a mild pain ontop or
behind my left or right eye. i have also
been getting mild ringing in the ears a
few times a day that lasts a matter of
seconds and i get alot of eye floaters
when im outside which i never had before.
I went to the doctor and he did a mild
physical exam and shined a light in my
pupils and all poked me in my face and all
those tests and a passed all of them but
that was 2 weeks ago and he said there was
nothing to worry about im a natural
worrier though when i have these things
that i never had before. i havnt had any
nausia but i do sorta force myself to
throw up a little but when i get scared
that i have a tumor to bad.
i will also note that i suffer from TMJ
syndrom. (evertime i open my jaw wide it
snaps or pops. and this started half way
throw my braces process and i got them off
in spetember this year. i will also note
that i started noticing these pains in my
head the day after i stopped smoking weed
but i know its not withdrawals anymore cuz
they would not last this long...sometimes
it feels as though my neck is stiff as
well...please reply if you think this is
seriouse...the pain doesnt get worse when
working out or running.
thank you

Do you sometimes get ear pain along with
ear ringing or feeling of fullness,
stuffiness or even hearing loss?
Is the headache usually located at the
sides of the head over the temples with
related pain in the neck, face, and even
in the back?
Are you dizzy a lot?

i do sometimes get ear ringing and
sometimes pain but like i said its only
for a matter of seconds. i dont usualy get
"headaches" its more like head pains that
will occur in random spots of the head
usualy on both sides but not at the same
time and they will go away after a few
seconds. i dont have any vision changed
mood changes or hearing loss. and i dont
have vomiting. im pretty sure the ear
ringing is a cause of my TMJ like i noted
earlier. and the pains usualy start around
the afternoon and alot of the time i dont
have any pain for a few hours. i think
they might have got a little better since
they started

You are right about TMJ syndrome and ear
problems. TMJ may cause ear pain, ringing
in the ears (tinnitus), and hearing loss.
Do you have trouble swallowing?
Do you feel pain in jaw joint or chewing
muscles?
When have you been diagnosed with TMJ
disorder?

my jaw itself doesnt hurt to often but im
almost posititive i have tmj due to the
fact that i had braces and they started
half way after i got them on and everytime
i opened my jaw it would make an EXTREMELY
loud poping or cracking sound. iv had it
for over a year but only now noticing the
head pain. im not to worried its a tumor
though i just wanted to be reasured by
someone like yourself. its been over 7
weeks and iv had no other symptoms what so
ever. and the pain is not constand and
never in the same spot. infact its not
even a headache it feels like a pain ud
feel in your arm or leg or something only
i get them on different spots on my head
and they last about a minute at a time. do
you think its TMJ causing this

I'm sure that all of your symptoms are due
to TMJ disorder. Actually, a lot of TMJ
problems are caused by braces, due to the
fact that the wires can cause your teeth
tend to shift backwards thereby straining
the TMJoint. Some studies indicate that
over 50% of patients who undergo
orthodontic treatment end up with
headaches, migraines, and jaw problems.

im relieved o hear that you dont think it
is a tumor. If it were a tumor would i
have seen other symptoms by 8 weeks? and
would the pains and headaches have gotten
worse?..when i went to the doctor after 4
weeks of headaches he gave me a neurologic
exam in his office and i passed every part
of it and he told me he didnt think it was
a tumor at all. if it was a tumor would
that tests results have been abnormal? do
you think it is necessary to try and get
an mri? or no?

A brain tumor puts pressure on the tissue
in the head- brain tissue. The skull is
the cranial vault and has enough room in
it to house the brain, vessels, and
cerebral spinal fluid. Anything that will
increase the mass in the cranial vault
will cause problems. The brain tissue will
move aside to accommodate a tumor and this
will result in neurological changes and
deficits. These deficits are what your
doctor was assessing you for. A headache
would only be one possible indication of a
tumor. See a neurologist if you have
further concerns. An MRI will certainly
rule out/in any tumor or abnormality.

Do you find areas of your head and/or
scalp painful to the touch?
Yes, if it is a tumor, headaches will
become worse over time and will be
accompanied with other symptoms.
Please, don't worry too much.
First, visit a dentist specialized in TM
disorder. Early and appropriate treatment
for TMD is very important to avoid
reaching a chronic painful state.
Waiting for your post!
Best wishes!

Is there a chance the CT scan could miss
something?

No you don't need to worry actually. I
was thinking that you really don't have a
brain tumor. Many tumors go undetected
because they simply don't hurt. The bump
at the back of your neck/head is just a
lymph node which can really hurt when you
touch it if you are experiencing any kind
of small sickness, allergies, stress,
etc.
Your TMD could be causing a lot of the
problem. Also I want to watch what you do
during the day or have some one watch you
just for one day. See what your posture
is like. Are you slumping over or
standing up straight? Do you lift objects
by bending at the waist or squatting down
first? From your age, I guess you are
probably in school. When you sit at your
desk, see how you sit for that whole hour.
You can make yourself pretty stiff
sitting in a single position for that
long, slumped over your work.
I think you will find a visit to the
chiropractor in order. He will help
adjust your spine and your jaw. If you
keep tabs on how your jaw is feeling,
visits to the chiropractor can keep your
symptoms at bay without drastic measures.
You might also want to post in the
stress/anxiety forum. It seems like you
would get a lot of help there as well Best of luck to
you!

Can't edit it lol..
Ok, I like to call those my little tumor
headaches. I don't mean to put a big scare
on, but I had a tumor about 8 years ago.
Now, that was a long time ago...
I had those headaches, and I still get
them every once and a while. Back when I
had the tumor, the pain did come out of no
where. The headaches started in 3rd
grade.. never had any before. I would get
them everywhere and it would hurt so bad I
would cry and lay my head down. I would go
to the doctor and he said I was fine..
Then one time I was on the playground and
got another one (by this time it was every
day.) put my head down, and didn't get
back up for about 30 seconds.. (Blacked
out I guess ).. Went to the
doctor, he sent me to a professional
dude.. and next thing I know, I was in
houston.. the same day. Got the MRI and
the tumor taken out. A week of waiting of
course..
The twitching of the temple.. I get that
to this day. In the past month almost
everything has started twitching.
The ringing ears.. I get that all the
time.. don't know what the deal is.
My jaw snaps.. Now it isn't all the time..
but maybe I get a period once every couple
of days where every time I open it for a
couple of hours it pops..
I don't think those three are anything to
worry about. I had to get MRI scans, in
fact I just stopped the year before last.
All that was happening (timple twitching,
but nothing else) and there was nothing to
show for the scans.
Never did have a bump on my head...

I don' t know about your other symptoms
Pooka, but you have TMD which is unrelated
to the previous tumor, and if you want to
post about the jaw popping issue over the
in the TMJ forum, I'm sure you'd get a lot
of support and advice there for that
Congrats on pulling through a difficult
time, no matter how long ago it was.

alright well i really think i have a tumor
now, im so worried. I have undiagnosed
head pain everyday at the back and top of
my head and its driving me mad. i did
reasearch and found out the CT scans dont
show tumors and abnormal tissue as well as
the MRI does and if i want an MRI it would
be like a years waiting list. i really
dont know what to do. my CT scan appotment
is in 8 days or so. Im thinking i have a
tumor in the
Posterior fossa because these tumors often
have headache as a first and isolated
symptom and they are often primary which
mine would have to be and they often
develope in kids which im neither a kid or
an adult im 17 so i really dont know im so
worried about it. It also says that CT
scans cant show up tumors in that part of
the brain as good as MRI's can so i dont
know. I only have head pains though and
not so much a headache and its gone on for
more than 3 months now and i dont have
other symptoms but its been daily, the
only other symptom i can think of would be
eye floaters because i got those at the
same time. My head pains often get worse
when i smoke pot which is quite often but
i know the pot itself is not causing the
pain because i still had pain when i didnt
smoke. But the pain may be related to
anxiety because i noticed i worry alot
after i smoke weed. I just dont know what
to think anymore.

Ok, well, if you're worried about a brain
tumor, I'm going to say that you need to
be far more worried about what smoking
weed is going to do to you more than a
tumor: you need to stop doing that.
We have an addiction section of the forum
for help with that.

Do you usually see floaters in your eye
like specks, strands, webs or other
shapes?
Do they move with your eyes when you try
to see them, in front of your field of
vision or to the side?
Are you nearsighted?

i see floaters usualy in web type shapes
with circles in them, alot of the time
they form shapes like a worm would do but
in a clear form. I will also ocasionaly
see black specks as well, they do move out
of my vision but sometimes im able to
focus on them for a while before they do.
I only see them when im outside though.

Kind of weird.. I thought that was normal!
lol.. *Looking up what TMD is*
I don't know if I posted this earlier, but
an MRI is, I think they said, about 2k..
and yeah, we usually scheduel them right
after I get one (a year in advance). I'm
not sure where you live, but to get an MRI
here isn't that long of a waiting list
anyway...
Yay! I have TMD! Not only do I now know
what that is, but I'm experiencing it now!
I'm already learing things!
