pneumonia - bronchial arterial embolisation
Posted: 05-15-08 16:30pm

2 months ago I had pneumonia and had haemoptysis. I've had aBronchial Arterial Embolisation to stop the bleeding. I have been fine for 6wekks and then coughed and a bit of blood came out.
I went to A&E and had an X-ray that was clear. I was sent home . I am very worried that massive haemoptysis will start again.
Does anyone has recent info re succes rate of a Bronchial Arterial Embolisation?

Bronchial arterial embolization (BAE) has a high success rate for short-term control of bleeding; however, more than half the patients will require repeat embolization during the long-term follow-up.
Can you tell me what caused your pneumonia?

i had 2 bugs: streptococcus and staphylococcus. I have also been diagnosed now with atypical mycobacteriumm abcessus. I had lung function test a few days ago and the result were normal. However I always need to cough! I have no temperature and I'm feeling well.

It seems to me that the main reason for your haemoptysis (blood coughing) is the lung tuberculosis you have. Further attacks of haemoptysis depends from the disease evolution.
Do you take some medicines for treating the atypical mycobacterium infection?

After 3 months, do you still cough and expel blood?

Do you have any other symptoms?
