Polio vaccine and renal failure Posted: 03-19-08 09:33am
My step daughter has been diagnosed with
Nephrotic disease, since she had the polio
shot in sept. after she got he shot she
started swelling up , since that time she
has been in and out of hospital for 2
mths. they jst recently put in pic line in
her for meds and she goes in once a week
for other meds at the hospital. she
constantly battling with the water wait
and diet. My one question can the polio
vaccine cause her to have the kidney
problem she has now? The mother is trying
to get a law suit, but i see it as her own
fault for not doin the vaccine whn she was
younger. the school woldnt let her
continue with school if she didnt have it.
so is there a alternative to the shot she
could of got. thanks for your help..
Nephrotic syndrome is due to renal failure
and is manifested with finding proteins in
the urine (proteinuria), decreased
proteins in the blood (hypoproteinemia)
and generalized swelling (edema).
There is no data that polio vaccine can
cause renal failure.
It is very important to discover if her
renal failure is chronic or acute. Chronic
renal failure is usually an autoimmune
disorder while acute renal failure can be
due to various conditions (poisoning,
infections, allergic reaction etc.).
You may want to consult a nephrologist
about her condition.
